Default Nature Calls in Update 1.8: Introducing Fishing & Survival!

As Ascended you lead thrilling, immortal lives full of combat and adventure, but sometimes, you just want to get away from it all. You want to immerse yourself in the wonder of this unique, plane-touched world, search for hidden treasures, and seek calm from the din of war. Now, Telara’s defenders can heed the call of nature and trek out into the great outdoors with two all-new, bonus trade skills: Fishing and Survival.

Coming in RIFT 1.8: Infernal Dawn, these trades can be enjoyed by everyone in addition to any existing crafting or gathering skills you possess!

What people don't realize is that the devs actually hate fishing. This is being implemented solely because the cost of developing, testing, and marketing this feature is less than the bandwidth cost of all the "when will you add fishing?" threads.
You can play WoW in any MMO. You don't have to play WoW in RIFT. Oh, and no, RIFT is not a WoW clone. Not having fun any more? Learn to play, noob! I don't speak for Riftui, but I moderate stuff there. Got ideas for improving the RIFT community? Feel free to PM me. Just came back? Welcome back! Here's what's changed. (NOTE NEW URL)

Almost hate to say this, but I think I might end up spending a lot of time fishing....and I don't even like fishing.

Survival is already in the game. I do it every time I enter a lvl 50 pvp match with a low ranked toon.

Since these are new professions, can we pick them up if we already have 3 professions?
I would have had more in stock but goblins murdered my supplier.

Nope, these are extra skills, they're like archeology and I think first aid in that game that shall not be named.

I read "Nature Calls" and thought it had something to do with the bathroom.
    Silly me.

    Still looking forward to this.

I am glad these are able to be done in addition to our currently maxed out skills.

It would be nice to be able to do more than one skill per character but I know I am just streching on that one...

This system is very under developed and should not be released with 1.8. The survivalist skills are useless. What are the tents and bed rolls supposed to do? As of right now nothing according to the tool tip. The food that you cook does nothing beneficial compared to the drinks that you can buy from the merchants already. There was one good fish for clerics and mages (if you could call it good) and then you removed it and now there is really nothing. Do they stack with the food already in game? probably not which means that the EI cake is still better. Trion you really need to sit down and come up with something beneficial to this fishing and survival skill rather then the garbage that is in the system now. The changes that were made do nothing to what the skill is over all. Unless you are hunting artifacts and such..then fishing may be your skill to get.
    I hold everyone back!!!

I'd rather they release a system which is fun to play and definitely not overpowered than release something that's a little too good and has to get nerfed. It's not as though they'll never touch it again once it ships.

I agree but Trions's approach to gathering and crafting minus apothecary and artificer that make consumables, craftable gear does not replace gear already placed in the game. The max level crafted "drink" is just as good as isle embrosia. Why would I go farm mats for it when I can just easily summon my jarvis and buy it just as simply. Even the new crafted items are horribly itemized with crit all over them. Fishing is just something to do when you don't feel like grinding PA... that's it though...

The real question on fishing is how many old boots will I catch that do nothing more then fill up needed bag space? In other MMO's I hated fishing as you caught more junk then actual fish.

Not everything released needs to be better than what you already have, it just needs to be different. It's about giving options to people. What if I don't want to get EI rep for that food? I could fish for it, instead. The concept of "If it's not the best, it's useless" needs to go.
Regardless of what happens, people will always be unhappy. Be thankful for what you have and always be constructive.

Saw this line in the summary:
but if you want to be a true bait master
Thought of this old EQ1 comic: GU Comics (yes that's about 11 years old, plus about a week)

    I'm a horrible person.
