Default Introducing Soul Templates – Read less, play more!

Whether you’re new to RIFT or a seasoned adventurer looking to try another Calling, RIFT 1.7 is about to make your life easier with Soul templates!

In RIFT 1.7, we’re making some big changes to character creation, taking some of our players’ most popular Soul combinations (complete with names coined by the community!) and introducing them as Purposes: preset Soul templates you can use when creating a new Ascended!

Sounds good, will give them selection towards what they think they would like to level with.

My question would be is there ever going to be a template situation for those of us trying new roles, and seeing if they will be dps, support, or tank types while setting up the extra roles? - before we spend $ to train those areas we need to train for the new roles?

Can't tell you how many times I started up new roles and saved it (being only way to find out what role actually did - tank/dps/support, etc.

I love this idea. I am a big fan of playing weird concept builds (I have a mage whose primary build was picked because "I want to have all three -mancer souls"), but I know I have heard friends complaining about difficulty finding a build which suits them.
You can play WoW in any MMO. You don't have to play WoW in RIFT. Oh, and no, RIFT is not a WoW clone. Not having fun any more? Learn to play, noob! I don't speak for Riftui, but I moderate stuff there. Got ideas for improving the RIFT community? Feel free to PM me. Just came back? Welcome back! Here's what's changed.

please let one of the specs be named Asstalker

Good stuff though, even if I never use them I really like this.
    Snuggles - R40 Rogue : Snugglybear - R36 Mage
    <The Purge> - Seastone Server

I just hope people don't actually use those rogue dps specs you guys put in there... their poor performance will slow down all the T2 PA grinding I have to do so that I can try to make up for the huge loss incurred by the hasty addition of the PvP PA tree.

Glad to see this new feature! Will be a very nice jumping off point for players new to the game or a role, and will keep them in the game until they can figure out a build of their own!

Rather disappointed about this addition. Just because one of the things that make Rift so great is the moderate learning curve. Its great to jump head first into the pool and getting submersed in the world of rift. Making it more accessible by casuals tends to dumb down the whole experience. just imho.....

Because going to google and typing in "best rift warrior DPS build" is so much more challenging than having the game provide a cookie cutter build?

I love this idea, I think it s a great start for new comers to MMO's/RIFT to learn classes without spending time on google reading every min/max opinion on a build.

    Default larger experience

kindof agree with the fact; need less of a brain now.
but its a game to be ''played'' - not researched; we dont wanna re-invent the wheel on individual basis for each spec.

this results in a larger experience for the lot (more test -and quick playtime), and finer attuned builds.

in addition to that there are people who do not have a lot of time on their hands and endup playing 1 spec only. this will bring back the full rift experience back to those people.

i do hope this will be a playerbase created auction.

considering Trion just opened up the first 20 levels to be completely free, this is a really good idea for those who may be intimidated by all 8 souls for each class.

Giving new players guidance is never a bad thing. It helps them understand why putting points into one area is better than a different one.

First thought this was a really cool idea, then after messing with it I don't like it for a couple things. First there is no option to ignore it at creation. I know it can be changed after you're in the game but why not at creation. Also it was really cool when you had to earn souls via quests, then it gets dumbed down to just buying them and now eh just get em all for nothing. I agree that the soul/class depth was one of the cool things about the game and I feel this has taken some of that away.

And where's my refund on souls i did buy?!
