All I'd like to know is what happened to the in-game announcements? I've been only for 45mins and when the servers disconnected is the first I'd heard of this.

Ok, I dont read the forums much....didnt know this maint. was occuring until I suddenly got disconnected while fighting a mob. Whatever happened to the advance warning that servers were going down? Isnt that just a tad on the rude side (to say the least)?
I'm just wondering why there are no advance warnings anymore.

You don't get it either? It's not merely the name, it is the fact that they're doing this to us ... I had no notification of it happening, I am treated as a mere number or some such. I am sure they could find a better solution. For instance, if I was to be moved to a server where someone else has my name why not make my name Cloudwalker II ? Or better still, why not changeTHEIR name instead? When you transferred your guild in WoW and changed your name, you did so because you chose to. For a good discussion of CHOICE, please see this Wikipedia entry, it's very good ...I don't know any other way to put this, but if you quit Rift because you cannot have a name, there are some serious problems going on. lol. I mean, I remember transferring a whole guild and i had a cool name and it was taken on the new shard, and i picked an even better oneWOW, is all i can say and i don't mean the *WOW* as a pun.
Seastone just died with no warnings broadcast. Please bring back the warning broadcasts, they were helpful.

It takes very little to do a server wide message. Not everyone uses these forums and should not have too. I do not pay to read here but to play your game. Please would you inform your customers in game before shutting down the servers?

System message would have been nice
Worked an invasion until 2nd last boss, then disconnected on engage. I wish there had been any kind of system message or I would have bothered.

anyone know when this maintenance will be done?
They should send in game mail that there will be downtime. Don't need all the reasons just date and approximate time.
