I've tried a couple different payment methods, but the system doesn't seem to be working at the moment. I just keeping getting an Unable to Complete Purchase message.

Or I could just send a dollar to this organization. It pains me to see companies using charity as an excuse to make money.

This exactly. While it is a bonus if you wanted the upgrade, donating 1$ to any charity just by itself is better. Getting rich off of schemes like this is incredibly sad behavior, to say the least.

It's quite obvious that Trion Worlds is run by Laethys.

Give it a rest guys. If greed was truely the sole agenda/motivation for this, than there would be no charitable donations going outside their organization. Sure it's a "marketting" move, but one that comes with a pleasant and honorable bonus.

There's nothing honorable about playing on people's sympathies to make money.

This gave me a good laugh.

If they were going to donate, why not donate like 100% of the upgrade?

I'll give that to Blizzard Entertainment, they gave away all of the money they earned when the Pandarian Monk pet was launched in the Blizzard Store. I purchased that pet when the charity was involved.

Or they could put a slider on the purchase page and let the buyer set the split ratio (like Humble Bundle does).

It'd be better if you would just make a new package for it.
Dunno, give a title? "The Charitable"?
I'd buy it.. but I already have both of them.

yeah coz no other company in the world ever donates 10 cents / 1 dolllar / 2% of sales to charity. This is totally not common place.

    /end sarcasm

You know what happens when charities ask people to donate without getting anything in return? They won't part with a cent. It's like trying to get blood out of a stone - you would have more luck spinning straw into gold

there is good reason why we have so many special "days" now where you buy some little 2 dollar item you have no use for to support a charity

there is a reason why you see these kinds of buy this and we will donate a portion to charity type promos

it's because they are very effective methods of fund raising (for business and charity alike). Charity benefits, business benefits and the people who buy get a shiny and warm fuzzies

    it's a win win win

I do agree that a new package or item would gain more interest, since its a charitable offering, one item for $1 would get a lot of people on board, especially those that have the upgrades already. But it seems Trion have an ulterior motive, £5 for an upgrade with only $1 going to charity, seems a bit meh. I can understand you may get charged certain fees from paypal or visa/mastercard payments, but it's a charitable donation right, and $1 out of £5 is not that much.

But congratulations on at least making some effort, it's better than nothing as they say. But it feels like a sting, when you take a large portion of this money, many will see it as an ulterior motive to get people who haven't brought said items already, to buy it for Trion Worlds profit gain.

One dollar is seriously pathetic tbh.

We're talking about a virtual product that can be replicated endlessly with no cost whatsoever.

Sigh. Why do people always have to complain.
It's not Trion being pathetic. it's everyone here.
    It's 1 out of the 5.
    It's 10 out of the 50.
    It's 100 out of the 500.
    It's still 1/5th, it's 20% of whats being sold.
I don't see ANY company giving 20% of their sales to a good cause.
They could also.. just not do it.

The only complaint I have is that they added it to the already existing packs.
I'm pretty sure EVERYONE already has those.
Too bad that they didn't add a new pack.
Just a nice vanity item & charitable title would make me buy it.
For both the nice bonus ingame & the thought that I give 20% to a good cause.

    But well, that's me.
Shame that others have to complain about a good thing.
