It's not Trion being pathetic. it's everyone here.
    It's 1 out of the 5.
    It's 10 out of the 50.
    It's 100 out of the 500.
    It's still 1/5th, it's 20% of whats being sold.
I don't see ANY company giving 20% of their sales to a good cause.
They could also.. just not do it.

The only complaint I have is that they added it to the already existing packs.
I'm pretty sure EVERYONE already has those.
Too bad that they didn't add a new pack.
Just a nice vanity item & charitable title would make me buy it.
For both the nice bonus ingame & the thought that I give 20% to a good cause.

    But well, that's me.
Shame that others have to complain about a good thing.
It's the fact that they're using a charity to boost their sales.

I'd much rather get less for my £5 and know that all of the money had gone to charity, but like I said these are virtual items anyway, so it's not even like it's costing them anything.

Trion please stop trying to be a successful company right this second, it pains me to think that you make something and try to sell it for a profit.

I have purchased all your digital stuff, would love to see you make another very pointless pixel based in game vanity thing and chuck 20% of the proceeds to charity though.

Shame we don't see the good in some things, I dare say the charity would not have got this 20% extra income and exposure if we had just left it to "peoples" conscience.

Cannot imagine what it must be like to read these forums sometimes, you must think what the f%*k do we have to do to please them.

    Happy xmas to all

2O% is better than a lot of people, honestly. I work in a more upscale retail store for women's clothing (one of the places were people are dishing out $8O for a dress), and we're doing St. Jude's donations. The way I get most people to make any sort of contribution is by asking if they'd like to just round up their purchase to the nearest dollar - I've had people do that and donate 11 cents out of almost $1OO purchases. And that's after they've said no initially to naming their own price on the donation.

I do agree that it should've been a new pack to purchase. Unless people just feel like buying the same thing twice for no extra reward other than sending a dollar to charity (not that it's a bad thing to do that), they're losing out on a lot of potential buyers via their community. I know that if I had already bought the upgrade and now they're offering it with that small donation, I wouldn't want to buy it again and, like some other people have mentioned, just donate to the charity directly instead.

I'll bet Elrar checked this thread, and thought to himself, "Man, I knew I should've locked this one..."

I would of liked to see a *gift to guildee* option where I could pay for it and gift the code to a players name

Not disagreeing with your ideas, but I'm curious about your math... 1 dollar for a 10 U.S. dollar upgrade is only 10%... Granted, I still agree with the idea that at least they're doing something, but let's not give them more than they deserve.

    Default hokay so...

here's the problem. i own both of the options. none of my friends play MMOs (yup these people exist and there's a lot of them). This is a nice incentive to buy something from you guys. Buuuuuuuuuut, there's nothing to purchase. Pretty please make something novel for people who are current with upgrades to their account.

Thanks Trion for deleting my post detailing your business scheme. This action has confirmed your intentions.

The main point I made in my deleted post:

Trion's lack of care for this charity is shown in the fact that they are taking *90%* of the sale while only giving 10% to the charity.
Also, Trion will not give money to charity on sales for something new because demand will be too high. When all of the people who would buy the package anyway have already bought it, they will then offer some deal like this in order to manipulate more people into buying it. If they were to give some money to charity on something new, they would increase the price so that even after the loss from the donation, they will still meet their profit goal.

Welcome to capitalism. Watch what happens to corporate endowments if and when charitable deductions are eliminated as some people propose. If you were to stop patronizing businesses that say stuff like this or "for every menu item ordered we will donate..." etc. you would have to go live on a self supporting commune. Simply complain about it every time u would never stop complaining.

    News flash:
Businesses are in the business of making money, without it they are nothing. They could give nothing if they wanted. Since you're so charitable I'm sure you'll be sending at least half of your paycheck to charitable organizations.
After you have about half of the regular posters in the PvP & Warfronts on ignore it becomes a decent part of the forums.
Whatever the problem is I'm sure it can be fixed by nerfing Rogues.
I love MMOs but I hate their players.

Well the cynics would never listen to something like you said, as true as what you said actually is. So I decided to just address it with facts because ultimately what I said was fact. To me it is cynical to immediately assume something like this is simply a calus attempt to guilt people into giving Trion more money. Stating that without such programs charities would take a big hit is simply stating a fact. Facts are facts and to me are beyond subjective concepts like cynical /shrug.

Why complain, without our subscriptions we would not have our beautiful game that we pay for regardless of none of it going to charity each month.

Personally for me, charity begins at home as im classed by the UK as in the povery bracket. So whilst im enjoying my game and buying extras(which i would regardless), if im doing a little good somewhere else in the world at the same time, then yay for that.

And to pre-emp those who will say 'If your poor how can you afford to play rift?' Its simple, it is my only luxury each month, and I sometimes miss a bill to pay for my sub.
