One of the areas in Assassin we weren’t happy with is that Savage Strike and Backstab were often in competition for which is better to use. While we want Backstab to be punchier than Savage Strike just buffing its damage would result in far too much damage in general. At the same time we didn’t want to nerf Savage Strike to turn it into the ability that either wasn’t used or was that ability that is only used when Backstab can’t be used. We went back and forth over a number of solutions and in the end I think what we have now is an obvious use for both Savage Strike and Backstab that increases overall DPS and allows for extra burst especially when combined with other abilities at the start of combat. We’re also looking into issues Slip Away and stealth in general, we know it doesn’t work right and we’re not happy about it either.MarksmanWe had three main goals for the Marksman in this patch:
  • Increase overall damage
  • Make the optimal rotations more obvious
  • Don’t “nerf” aspects of the game by removing a number of on-demand effects
The Marksman rotation isn’t a particular easily understandable thing for a number of people and while the class could put out decent damage a non-optimal rotation could significantly decrease damage, more so than other classes. A lot of the changes made were with these goals in mind, right now our testing shows Marksman to have had a substantial DPS increase bringing them into line with other Rogue builds especially when using Pedestals. Pedestals and cast time abilities in general are something we’re happy with for the time being, if a Marksman wants to be mobile they need to sacrifice damage and if they want to sacrifice mobility they can increase their damage. As always your feedback and questions are appreciated.
