Default Official RIFT Multicore Testing Feedback Thread

    Greetings Ascended,

Multicore is here, and we want your feedback. For more information on how to enable this feature in RIFT, please see this post.

Please let us know how your RIFT experience is impacted with multicore enabled in the following circumstances.

    1. Instances
    2. Warfronts
    3. Raids
    4. Resource intensive locations (such as Margle Palace)
    5. Zone Events
    6. Conquest

Note, if you hover your mouse over the system icon in the menu you’ll get a popup with your current FPS, which you can compare to how RIFT performs when this feature is not enabled.

Also if you do experience any crashes with this feature enabled, please make sure to send in your crash reports. We’re combing through them even more intensively than usual to help quickly identify any issues you may experience before we fully release this feature.

    Thanks,
    The RIFT Team

Is this just an improvement on the game with DirectX 9.0c or are you toying with DirectX 12 also (or planning on)?

I'm really not seeing much of a difference. If anything, I'm getting less FPS (both in Full Screen and Windowed mode ... I did Windowed mode for the screen shot). Not much more improvement across the cores.

i7-3770K water cooled and overclocked to 4.8GHz.
    16GB DDR3 RAM
    256GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD
EVGA GTX 980 SC Overclocked to 1450Mhz
    Windows 10 Professional

Below was taken in the Crafting area in Margle Palace.

Do you play on low quality rendor? Multicore won't really work on it.

Yeah it was only mentioned once on their first livestream, they really should include it in the footnotes of the thread at least.

Having Experimental Multicore checked in the settings seems to disable the default CTRL+P keybind for taking a screenshot without the UI.

Uncheck the box, CTRL+P works just fine.

    5 fps increase.
    Windowed mode only tho.
(Full screen and windowed full screen cause my mouse icon to disappear. So instead of whining I just play in windowed mode since absolutely no one I have talked to has had the issue nor have I seen any posts about it)

Here is a little bit more information and experimenting. I am seeing on average lower FPS with it on (Thank God I have an nVidia card with a G-SYNC monitor) with Multicore turned on.

These shots were taken in the Hammerknell Instant Adventure. Again, same specs, and it doesn't seem to matter if I am in full screen or windowed mode. Running on my Asus ROG Swift monitor at 2560x1440 resolution.

I'm tempted to install Rift on my rendering station and see what happens. Odds are even Trion doesn't have a machine like that to test with.

There are tons of older threads in the forum about the disappearing mouse cursor, that's why they added a fix for it. You have to check the option "Lock Window Size" in your video settings if you play in Fullscreen Windowed.

FPS looks to be staying the same, but I will say that with multicore on, the game feels smoother, there appears to be less fluctuation in stress heavy areas.

Will provide more feedback as the test continues.

Two quick tests - standing around in Tempest Bay, and jumping around in Margle Palace, multicore gave about 20% worse framerates in each case. Four core cpu, using fullscreen windowed mode. Will try to test during some raids this weekend.
