I took some time to run a dungeon today. It was a little slow at first because everyone was spread out through the level range. We ended up forming a group from 50 chat.

Okay, the dungeon was easy. We adjusted our levels a few times to see how it affects experience etc. I got more experience as a level 20 against level 17 mobs than I did being a level 10 against level 17 mobs.

Furthermore, besides running with your friends leveling there is no incentive to mentor down. The random dungeon rewards at this point is terrible. The random cache has nothing useful and the marks are useless. The drop is the dungeon is not useful either because none of it is usable for crafting etc.

Overall, I am much less excited about this feature now.

I'd have to agree, I see little reason to mentor down. The drops are worthless to a 50, the rewards equally useless. Only reason to do it might be to help friends or guild mates do the lower level dungeons when there wasn't enough people of that actual level available to do it - all to the benefit of the real low level players, then take the items chest, sell it and mail them whatever gold the item got because the paltry bit matters not to you but the low level could probably use the gold.

The other thing it needs, if I am going to do it at all is instant heal when you return to level 50 - otherwise you have to stand around in a safe are or waste a pot unless you have a self heal. Yes fun, but that's all it is, not rewarding and, once you've done the dungeon a couple of times, even the fun would go out of it.

It did seem to work as intended, but the rewards and the post mentor healing time need help. Now with real new players following and, actually seeing a first time reaction to the dungeons, it might be fun just for that, but overall, not really worth doing.

Yes. This is basically what it is for.

Others talking about dungeon rewards and whatever - you just may be missing the point.

Mentoring is what it is called - you level yourself down to 'mentor' other players. It's not for you to solo stuff - doing Experts is still better to do as a Lv 50 player.

I really enjoyed mentoring down and doing some IA in Freemarch. I like the idea of being able to instant adventure in any zone and still get my ISS and PA experience clickies as rewards.

I like that when you mentor down you still have all your abilities. When you go back to level 50 you have very little health, especially if you're not at full health when you go back to 50 you almost die

high level quests in the quest tracker turn red when you mentor down but they stay red when you go back to 50.

It would be great if group quests could be worked into IA, the LFG tool for group quests has A. never worked or B. is the greatest feature no ones ever used.

just fine tune the exp vs level gap to be more rewarding the higher the foes are than yourself and you have yourselves a fine idea.
its quite fun using 66 points at level 10

The random normals and the random experts need to be on separate counters. Also need an actual reason to do them besides XP.

Also mentoring down I could not summon my raptor, but I could summon -> mentor and he would scale fine.

No one is talking about soloing stuff. We just want real rewards for "mentoring" players. If I just wanted PA levels I can just continue the same stuff I do now because none of this is new content.

This could be an excellent way to get people out in the world, meeting people and helping new players. However, with little incentive it is not going to go anywhere.

Mmm I think its both. Devs can chime in here but I think part of the intent is to make the entirity of the world usuable again. So I have to agree the rewards need work. Though I don't think everything is complete with this feature. I think Tacitius said in the other thread that they are still adjusting rewards. Ultimately if the rewards are not worth it people won't use the feature and it will be a waste of resources. In a way Chronicles are a good analogy, alot of people don't run them anymore cause the rewards are lackluster in comparison to IA's. Making what was a really good feature a bit of a waste of space.

you can mentor down and get the same reward for an IA in freemarch as you would for doing an IA in Stillmoor, it's also fun, call me old fashioned but sometimes I do stuff just for fun.

what "real rewards for mentoring" do you suggest?

Why? they are real easy to solo.

The exp is decent with the daily. IA's are still better in general.

Okay, found another problem, the skeletal knight pet does way too much damage when you mentor with it.

I first set to level 15 and went after a level 13 boar to test, my pet one hit the boar before I even got plague bolt off after right clicking the beast.

So went down to level 10 and went after a level 16 wolf, I got plague bolt off but that was all, pet 2 hit the beast with one plague bolt from me.

Oops, my pet should not be stronger than me but mentored it is. Sure it's fun going after level 20 mobs at level 10 but, I don't think that was the plan here. I mean I know you get the knight at level 12 so that might be as low as it can go, but even so, it should not be that powerful when it's at or near minimum level for the pet.

If I got credit for pet kills, I'd love it, mentor down and sick my pet on Freemarch LOL, but that doesn't work that way. It's a laugh but, not right.

For a reward, what about having some kind of currency attached to mentoring of level characters in a dungeon?

I'm thinking it could work like this: Level 50 mentors down, and each time he/she kills a boss in a dungeon, he gets 1 coin for each of level character he/she is grouped with?

That way, if said 50 just wants to run a friend's alt through, say Realm of the Fae with four bosses, that 50 gets 4 coins. However, if the same 50 and friend's alt que up in the dungeon finder and get 3 other of level toons, so 4 all together, the 50 gets 16 coins for 4 boss kills.

Each capital city could have a mentor merchant where you could redeem the coins and buy say, mounts, fluff pets, PA clickies, whatever....
