This list could be so long but generally I don't like movies made after 1960 as modern movies have such awful dialogue in comparison to older movies.

But here is a short list:

    * I love the Thin Man movies with Myrna Loy and William Powell. I love pretty much any William Powell movie.
    * I love the 1940 Nancy Drew movies. So much fun.
    * I love Andy hardy Movies with Mickey Rooney.
    * I adore Bettie Davis and love so many of her movies particularly Now Voyager and Dark Victory.
    * I love Billy Wilder Movies Some Like it Hot, the Apartment, Sunset Boulevard, The Fortune cookie, Witness for the prosecution and so many more.
    * any Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce Sherlock Holmes movie.
    * 1930 Gangster movies like Little Caesar, The Public Enemey, Scarface, the Roaring 20's and so on.
    * many of the detective movie series like Philo Lance, The Saint, and the The Falcon.
    * Margaret Rutherford Miss Marple Agatha Christie movies
    * Bogart Movies like Casablanca, Petrified Forest, High Sierra, Treasure of the Sierra Madre and so many more.
    * Bank heist movies like the Killing, The Asphalt Jungle and the lavender Hill Mob.
    * Doris day and Rock Hudson Movies which usually have Tony Randall - Pillow Talk and Lover Come back.
    * A Face in the Crowd with Andy Griffith I am always a sucker for movies where people rise from the gutter to the stars then crash back down.
    * The Third man I love the music that begins and ends this movie.

Really impossible to make such a list as there is so much out there.

In addition, here is an unsorted list of some of my favourites:
    • The Shawshank Redemption
    • The Godfather and The Godfather: Part II
    • 12 Angry Men
    • Pulp Fiction
    • The Matrix
    • Goodfellas
    • Casino
    • American History X
    • Citizen Kane
    • Secondhand Lions
    • There Will Be Blood
    • Full Metal Jacket
Though the list does not show it, I am also a huge fan of science-fiction, fantasy, action, and horror movies. However, specific titles do not tend to stick with me as things I like to watch again. Every title on this list I have seen at least three times, and some many, many more.
Ah man, completely forgot about Secondhand Lions til I saw your post. By far one of the best movies I have ever seen

I love detective shows, too! Especially Psych. And who doesn't love How to Train Your Dragon

I just saw Inception. Seriously, it's the best movie I've ever seen.

Barry Lyndon is my favorite film. Dr. Strangelove is a close second.

    Dr. Strangelove is great.

"We must prevent a mine-shaft gap!"

Can you please somehow work that line or a line similar to it if copyright is a problem into an end game raid? I would die with laughter. Probably literally as I could not play I'd be laughing so hard.

Im a big fan of Tombstone. Val Kilmer was an awesome Doc Holiday.

As for a cult type favorite, I would say that I like the 1980 version of Flash Gordon.

A FEW of my favorite movies? Just a FEW?! How about 10? Umm ... I'm going to cheat and list some as a single even though there are sequels.

    - The Matrix Trilogy
    - The Indiana Jones Collection
    - The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
    - The Alien Collection (especially Alien Resurrection)
    - The Star Wars Collection
    - The Star Trek Movie Collection
    - The Mirror Has Two Faces
    - Shawshank Redemption (one of my faves)
    - The Truth about Cats and Dogs
    - Titanic

I could go on (with the new Star Trek, 2012, etc.) ... cuz in truth, I have a LOT of movies that I enjoy ... some more than others. I hate having to list "favorites".

I can never think of them off the top of my head, but I would recommend Inception. It just came out, and is one of the only movies I have seen in a long time that I have really enjoyed. The look, the story, the ending all made it a great movie. The ending is perfect, and that is normally the worst part imo.
