I'm well in to 3D, and I've created a rather cool project - for what could be a game. I'll post more on that later when it can actually be 'run around'.

It's REALLY complicated at first, but hey - so was photoshop back in the day! You'll get used to it. It's a large download, free (unless you buy PRO - but you do get a 30 day PRO trial with the download, just forget activating it, you won't need it) and it's really fun. Try experimenting with Spherical objects or Cubes, using light sources to cast different shadows and get used to camera situations.
