Default Migrating from Rift to Classic WoW in August - Who's In?

I've been playing Rift on and off since release, and solidly since the last expansion, but there comes a time where you just need to move on. In this case back to something that Rift itself molded itself around.

Many of my guildies and in game friends have continually grasped onto hope that Rift will see new light "they're hiring devs!", "give them time!". I've been trying to explain to them for some time that these hopes are based on illogical fallacies, and I think they're finally waking up as my obvious predictions are coming to fruition.

It's not like I want Rift to die, but if you just understand the facts from the fiction it was obvious where Rift was heading. The main killer was unfortunately the 64-bit issue and Trion's debt, compiled with Gamigo taking over who specifically specialise in sustaining dead games, advertising to new players, creating a high turn around of desperate mmo seeking gamers, and make a decent buck from big cash shop deals in the short term.

So what now? I'll still carry on playing Rift; I enjoy dimensions, completing everything possible in game and popping into PvP once in a while, but this only fills a very small void. It's time to go back home. Rift was specifically made to fill a void of disenfranchised WoW players who didn't like the direction WoW was heading in Wotlk and beyond. It was basically a carbon copy of vanilla, bar a few distinctive additions; a very inventive soul system, rifts, new story, maturer graphics, and some welcome quality of life additions (it was made 7 years later after all!). Honestly, if you love Rift vanilla, you really should be liking WoW vanilla.

So WoW classic comes in August. I'm not going to try persuade people to come over, WoW classic speaks for itself, if you're not tempted already then you should be, and if you don't like it after trying, then that's fine. What I would like to propose though is that those who choose to give WoW classic a go, stay on the same server, so the Rift community in some regards stays in the same place and possibly/hopefully come together in the same guilds. I do however appreciate how German players will want to go to german servers and french players will want to go to french servers, but for the rest of us!?

Those who played WoW classic and moved to Rift know exactly why people are heading back. Those who haven't ever tried it before and are somewhat intrigued but need to ask questions feel free to pm me, chat to me on discord or ask me in game.

I've already got a handful of players from Zaviel heading over. I'll confirm the server we're heading to once we have more information.

    Thanks,
    Fwob.

Yeah if there isn't something new and extremely compelling to do in this game, like a new raid or questing zone, I may start playing classic WoW as well.

Having played both games heavily, I preferred Rift. This game sucked me in back in vanilla and I've been coming back ever since.

But there simply is nothing fun to do in Rift anymore. Neglect and lack of updates is killing this IP.

Beyond killing endgame bosses with pet tanks and funky raid configs, there's been reason to play this game for a while now. MMOs are about character progression and improvement. It's a carrot and stick where you're always trying to get that next slightly better shiny new thing. To do that you group with friends to beat epic bad guys.

There's been no shiny new things coming up on two years now. And no new epic bad guys.

    Cool

Never thought to aggree with Fwob but jeah, balls to post it in the Rift's official forum.

Got a whole pack of people starting horde on classic, 10/10 players, pvp/ hardcore who played several 'private servers' before, latest being Sunwell. The class planer spreadsheet is up already so whoever is interested in a high level international Guild of rock solid veterans let me know. I'm 50/50 sold joining in, eventho the content is old and known, aswell as the relentless grind which awaits but oh boy it's a trip.
I'm convinced classic, as it is almost a sandbox, still holds unlimited amount of tricks never seen before in 15 years - like staff warrs, spellpower rogues, double air totem rotations, 2h Fury and reta ping-pong.

    ?

May also merging to Modern Warfare in October 25th and eventho it's cod and Activision, the whole game's background is passion and fanservice, reminds me of the early Medal of Honor(s) and looks promising to me.
Being let down by a unplayable toxic and buged Rainbow six siege this might be some fresh envoirnment to give a shot.

Loged into rift today, puged one irotp, browsed through all the quest and activity offers, checked the merge- and content updates, checked the shop lootboxes and i feel like i am finaly done.

As Everquest 1 fanboy, I'm waiting for Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen. I played WoW until its first expansion, but it never fascinated me as much as EQ 1.

    What's it's selling point?

    btw
Classic needs someone to maintain broken gud bis lists and addons. The existing statspages are kinda medicore tbh : (

The selling point Pantheon is Everquest 1 with modern graphics
The game mechanics, classes and the entire content are mainly designed for group play even during leveling.

Hey Shas, great to hear! Despite how much i would love to play Horde, it has been decided we're going alliance this time round. Not quite sure why, possibly quicker/easier in pve and also likely to be the underdog.

But I'll definitely let you know which server we're on even if we're brutal enemies XD

I'm going to skip WoW Classic all to me just doing same content again. If people out there like it, they like it. For me, I'll skip it, good luck if people that do play it.

Default BFA not Classic for me

I created a guild over a year ago in case things continued going south with Rift. I had about 12 raiders and players migrate over. Most had stopped playing not long after Rift's horrible SFP was launched. I have enjoyed Legion and BFA. It is a refreshing change to play something that has a good engine, new content, well populated servers, and LFRs and dungeons that work. Sure- it has a big population waiting for Classic- and I am excited for those who want it. It is not my cup of tea- but I see the appeal. Bnet me at Andrarose#1798. We are mainly Alliance on Dalaran.

I got my old account back, subbed and can't stand being in game. I can't even stand the look of the toons. Not sure how long I will be in classic.

Pantheon? I'm looking it over right now! I came to Rift from EQ1 when SONY got trashed and shut down for the summer back in 2011. I always liked the graphics here and Rifts really. I thought the game showed promise but Trion had other priorities than pushing the winner they had. And here we are now. Bankrupted and turned over to creditors. Can't keep the game up for even an hour recently. And why's that? Cause they are practicing to merge NA too maybe. IDK. Can't be trouble with new content. There isn't any. I loved Seastone for all these years and Sunrest before that (although they gutted it early). I have tried running up some toons on tame servers. It's okay (faster!) but just not the same. I hate the thought of walking away after all these years and all this success. But it just might be time.

It would seem that Rift will have to rely on new players. I've been gone for about two years (hardware/life related) and it's pretty much samo samo. Without new content how do they expect to keep long time players?

I am playing Rift since release and WoW since 2008. I will continue playing both games, and Classic WoW. There is no reason to cancel a subscription. I plan to play Classic WoW but I know, that it will never be the same like it was in 2008. The special of this old WoW was the time.

Internet was relatively new for the most because many players had their first Internet access. It was exciting to imagine, that there are other players behind the characters. We were friendly and treat the others with respect.
We also played the game naively. Nobody really knew anything about skills and there were no online guides, only books. I still have one old tutorial book about WoW and we had read, that a dungeon group needs a Tank and Healer. We were 5 friends and played the dungeons with dps specialisation.

2019: The players know what to expect. They plan every skill point of their talent tree in advance and are using talent calculators. They are well familiar with everything and they expect behind every character an probably former Vanilla WoW player or a newbie.

Many will fast level-up to reach the highest level. They're already plan raids and they want to raid. They know the bosses. There is nothing new, it is simply an old area which hast to be skilfully and efficient conquered.

And welcome in 2019. After the first Bosses are down, they will demand the next addon: Burning Crusade.
It will be the same situation as we have here now, new content will be demanded..

I am really looking forward to Classic WoW, but unfortunately expect the described procedure. I will continue playing Rift and BfA until the impatient players in Classic WoW leveled-up.
