    Default Question

I am not very tech savvy, but I am looking into getting a better pc for gaming. I currently play on a lap top and haven't had many issues but I would like to play at the ultra settings in raids and hopefully contribute more to zone event bosses (sometimes I'm only getting a few abilities off running like 2 fps, however at medium settings I do fine in raid over 20 fps). Does anyone have a recommendation? I'd like something that can run decent but not break the bank.

I have heard that rift is somewhat unique in regards to what runs best. It's my primary game but I do plan to check out Crowfall and Ashes of Creation in the future.

Are you planning on buying a Pre-built or are you open to building your own?

Not sure I would be able to build my own.

What is your budget? Are you looking for a new laptop, or do you need a complete desktop setup with a tower, monitor(s), mouse, and keyboard?

These questions are a MASSIVE driving force behind what kind of computer you can get, and what we, as a community, can recommend to you.

Will be just a tower, I have the keyboard, monitor, and mouse. I'm looking to spend less than a thousand US.

With pretty decent hardware, you'd be at around 1400€:

I guess on newegg or something this will be equal to around 1000-1100$, as hardware tends to be cheaper in the US. A cheaper alternative would be:

Ofc you can also make an AMD Ryzen system, which will be cheaper, but I have no idea how Ryzen processors handle Rift.

For a Ryzen system, maybe something like this:

It's not really much cheaper though ...

Given this, and given that you do not want to build one, here are 3 recommendations. Additional searching and shopping around might provide better deals/options.

#1 - https://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/New-Year-Special-II - amazing deal for a good PC, it's a little above $1,000US, but this is an amazing system for the price! If you are willing to go slightly over budget, I highly suggest this option.

#2 - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16883221086 - Meets your budget, should run Rift beautifully, but not as well as option #1

#3 - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16883230273 - Also meets your budget with a faster CPU than option #2, but a weaker GPU. That's good enough for Rift, since Rift's performance is heavily influenced by your CPU choice, but this one will lose out to option #2 in many other games.

IF you are willing to venture into the realm of building your own PC, here's a fairly good build that comes in under $1,000 after rebates:

The only thing I would add is an additional 250GB SSD drive. That would bump up the price to around 1050$, but imo the performance gain is worth it.

I will look into how to build, I've never done this before but it seems you get much more for your money.

    I bought this Alienware 17 R4: http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-...p/dkcwkblg0744

It runs ultra at 160fps at 2560 resolution, the screen is awesome, the keyboard is good and it's just overall awesome for anything you could ever need. I got the one with 32gb ram as well.

I used to do the building route, but this is just better imo.

Indeed! Building it yourself is always the best way to go price-wise.

Please do research to understand how things go together before doing a build. Building a PC is easy, but it is important to know what goes where, and what does what, before diving in.

That's pretty legit. What resolution are you playing on though? 2560x1440p? It's super expensive but probably really worth it if you highly value mobility. (:

Building a Desktop PC yourself though is, as Clowd already said, the best way to go price-wise and extensibility wise.

Yea 2560x1440. And mobility is important. I do some intensive work for my career as well as presentations across the US so I need it for that as well.
