Smile While I wait for Rift, I have MineCraft?

Any of you hear of Minecraft?

It's basically a sandbox open-world PC game (currently in alpha) that lets you explore to your heart's content and craft things that will help you to create grand masterpieces of block engineering. Oh, and there are zombies too.

The game is keeping me preoccupied while waiting for new info on Rift, and it's currently a free to play weekend, so you can just download the client and try it out.

Anyway, here's a fanmade trailer showing the extent of what you can do.

LOL, nice... epic soundtrack and video, the graphics are lacking though.

The graphics are intentional, methinks. anyway, it's a one-of-a-kind game, so I don't mind the block usage so much.

We spent the whole ( 9 hours) last night playing it muliplayer with 4 people, building epic sized castles and mining the deepest shafts one could think of.

loads of fun, love the sandbox and the graphics really do not bother me.

Holy... They're giant voxels! SWEET! (Probably why the graphics are intentionally primitive. Voxels are INCREDIBLY process intensive. Just check out Voxelstein and its system requirements)

I've been watching X's videos for the last hour and just downloaded the client. It looks fun so i'm going to give it a go.

    Thanks for pointing this out.

Hmm for some reason nothing is working for me. I can get in to the game and move about but I can't harvest anything.

Very true. I realised why I couldn't mine anything and I've been playing for the last 4 hours solid.

    It is...so...so...addictive!

I've built a nice little fort near a lake, complete with steps up to a balcony and terrace area. I've found some red, gravelly stuff and I'm currently mining that out and making sure I have a roof.

Combat is actually rather tricky. I must start looking in to some armour.

The only thing that is missing is the multiplayer in my scenario. It's fun but it would be great if there were some people about.

Think I'm going to see about some screenshots later.

Ironically enough, I also mined a fairly deep shaft last night - Kudos!

I play MineCraft when I'm exceptionally bored myself as it gives me eyestrain to play the game for long periods,

But I love how I can mine all the way down, stumble onto an underground cavern, and then find zombies!

By the way, I recommend Arkenor's videos (there are 6 currently at http://www.youtube.com/user/Arkenor ) as he's a friend of mine and they're funny as heck!

By the way, the authentication servers for accounts may be up soon, so if you haven't bought the game, you're gonna need to purchase it when the servers come back up. Cheers.
