    Default Good flight simulator game?

Can anyone recommend a good flight simulator and an appropriate joystick to go with it?

Best flight simulator in my opinion is an OpenSource (Free as in beer) one http://www.flightgear.org/
a few features can be seen on http://www.flightgear.org/about/features/ and some screen shots on http://www.flightgear.org/about/gallery-v2-8/

Did I say it was free? ;)

Just as an alternative to a flight simulator there is also Kerbal which is a rocket simulator. It's incredibly more addictive I find as you actually build and launch your own rockets (and planes) into space.

This is an amazing game that really requires skill. Plus you can make HUGE explosions.

The Mohawk Guy who was in the curiosity landing plays this as do many other NASA people. Not bad for a game from mexico.

This is a $20ish program. It's worth it.

    Rise of Flight

The very best flight sim ever. There is no comparison to this game. Breathtaking visuals, strict adherence to realism/historical accuracy, and a correct actual physics model. Many flight sims hard code aircraft performance. AKA, at a given altitude, it will have a fixed max speed and turning characteristics. In a physics model, the aircraft are placed in the world. Thus, outside effects can affect performance. Flak explosions and concussion effects from bombs can affect the plane's flight path. Planes with more weight are more sluggish but carry more momentum (heavy fuel/bomb loads). Wind causes heading drift and fuel economy concerns... the list goes on.

Not to mention the game has a full realized visual damage model. As far as joysticks go, anything by Saitek is a good one. They range from standard joysticks to more expensive models that include rudder pedals and throttle controls.

I just cover myself in feathers and flap my arms around works pretty well.
