something everyone on this forums should listen to
i dont normally post links but when i do they are usually to something good. check it out http://penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/harassment
in a way i miss non faction games with open pvp. i know its not for everyone and there are bully's every where and in every game but when you could gang up and stop someones leveling so they'd stop their antics really gave a good feel. lineage2 had a social check in these ways. there have only been a handful of times i just wished i could pk a few people and take em down a notch. not the best answer or way but we gotta do something about it. ignore list is fine but really its just not an answer to all of it. but thought you all might like what the vid talks about.
EVE online has a similar system imbedded within its core design. Nowhere is safe. If somebody dares to spout BS like what you hear on 50 chat here or on XBOX live chat... they get not only blown up... but there's sadistic people in EVE who will station camp them for hours... days, weeks.. months. As soon as that person logs on, he gets killed. He will never go 10km outside of a station for the rest of his EVE career in that game.
That's why there's little to no public chat going on in EVE. There are severe repercussions for bad or unwanted behavior.
On these forums, I have already made a suggestion to this affect. http://forums.riftgame.com/lore-tela...ion-trion.html I of course approve of the message in your link and think it is far too long that this behavior is allowed to run rampant in games while developers turn a blind eye.
Shield of Telara
Sadly, the 15 year olds are a majority of the gamers. And they really need to know limits not be cuddles like they currently are. Free for all with guilds mostly forming sides imo has always worked best. If the other guild had a really annoying person, you told their leader about it, if he ignored it you went and corpse spawned the prick untill he went crying to mommy about it.
Then you corpse camped the annoying person.
Yes, it's a bit evil, but putting people on ignore won't make them learn anything.
Either the GMS take it into their hands to deal with the rotten apples, or the players should do it.
This game does neither.
Are you sure, I'm pretty sure I've read things that say most gamers are in the 20-35 age range. I know wikipedia isn't really a great source, but even it says "The average gamer is 37 years old and has been playing for 12 years. Eighty-two percent of gamers are 18 years of age or older."

Buff, Debuff based on + rep and validated complaints
Great Penny-Arcade link.
Make it a reward leader-board type system with perks for the more points you have.
Reward good behavior: In game +rep for positive helpful behavior gets you an in-game Buff/Fluff for x amount of time.
Consequences for bad behavior: Validated X amount of harassment complaints or -rep removes any rep Buff and/or gets you a debuff and/or loss of public chat/messaging for X amount of time .
Add in some checks and balances to prevent abuse of the system.
