Default Majority of MMO gamers are Sci-Fi fans - POLL

I'm interested to know if the majority of MMO gamers are also Sci-Fi fans. It might be books, movies, television, etc. They don't have to be hardcore but casual too.

Are you a fan? Yes or No

I am a fan of all MMO's to be honest, so that includes SCI-FI as well.

I think the genre has alot to do it, but also the way the game plays and the content. If the genre is my favorite but the game is lacking mechanics and not being polished that could deter me.

Yes, but it very much depends.

Star Trek - No, for the most part no.
Star Wars - Hate the trilogy. Hate the prequel trilogy every more. Can tolerate the EU. In really really like the KOTOR world though!
    Star Gate - Meh...
Couldn't care less about most major sci-fi francises.

But science fiction in itself is just great. I keep looking for a MMO that will fit me, but they're already so rare as is. TOR will be the closest I can find. The Secret World appeals to my other interests so I'm keeping a close eye on it.

the forms and themes of both fantasy genres convey many of the same metaphors and allegories. if it's explication is deep and provokes a response which makes me think or is simply clever.. ... i am 100% supportive.

the beauty of fiction is between the lines, if the work lacks such depth... ... i would rather experience works of non fiction.

I am but I like Sci-Fi that is based on pretty good actual science. Even if it's not perfect.

Sunshine (Probably one of my ultimate favs)
Black Hole (Watched 1000s of times when I was a kid)
    Equilibrium

Even Star Trek Next Generation (even though a lot of it wasn't, much was based on some science or morals)

Or if it has a good story to it.

    Minority Report
    I Am Legend
Star Wars (IV-VI) (Not the new ones)
    War of the Worlds
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
    etc.

    That's about it.

Not a fan of Avatar although it was ok. It was too special effects for me with a "Dances with Wolves" story. I think a good sci-fi is a blend of special effects that compliment the story, not showing off or you're just another Jerry Bruckheimer effects movie with little chemistry in actors and plot.

Far as MMOs I'll play anything.

Although I'm sort of waiting on an MMO that will combine the fast paced action of a 2D fighter (if lag and such allows in the future).
I thought a Mortal Kombat MMO would be kind of neat. Netherrealm against human realm (factions). Using Aion similar type fight mechanics with Mortal Kombat 4 style + more and lot more variety. But think maybe Blade & Soul might fix some of those desires later. Don't think it's coming out anytime soon.

Most Likely to be: Defiant - Cleric Calling (PvP Server)

I'm a fan of anything sci-fi, fantasy or just downright alternative. You might say I'm your geek-type.

I think it stands to reason that fans of geek culture are likely to see something in MMO worlds which tend to focus on fantasy or sci-fi themes. I have to add, though, that I don't think you have to be a fan of geek culture to be attracted to MMOs.

Personally I say "make it so".

I hope people don't mind the choice of using the words geek culture but it was merely the one way I could think of grouping a lot of tastes together.
