Default SLI 260 or go for a 460?

I realize some issue I have with rift is my cpu Q8400@2.7 but wondering if it would be most beneficial to go to SLI or just upgrade to a single 460?

I will most likely upgrade my cpu sometime this year but vid card will probably come first.

PS hate having this in OT Trion we need a tech forum. =)

Single 460 for sure. Im running a GTX460 HAWK edition and have 0 problems. SLi reallllly isnt worth the money. 200% the cost for 30% increase in performance.... no thanks.

If you really want 2 GPU's, the AMD 6800 series will give you about 80% improvement, but they are sketchy with Rift.

So in the end, 1 460 is your best deal.

Actually I don't know if it's my bad luck or what but never had a ATI that out performed my Nvidia's thanks for the help looks like I will go for the 460 the 500 series will be out of the budget.

Assuming that the ATI and nVidia cards are close, it could very well have been drivers, or games optimized for particular chipsets. Good to see you making the good choice on cards!

However, to throw a wrench into you plans... the 6850 is a phenomenal card, and about the same price point as the 460 so that could be something to look into...
