    Er.

To some extent, pornography is. Prostition isn't because it's not speech in the legal sense; it's not a medium for communicating literary devices.

And no, this isn't fail. This is win. Epic win. Video games are a real art form in which people communicate real messages; they do indeed deserve the same protections enjoyed by books, music, and movies.
You can play WoW in any MMO. You don't have to play WoW in RIFT. Oh, and no, RIFT is not a WoW clone. Not having fun any more? Learn to play, noob! I don't speak for Riftui, but I moderate stuff there. Just came back? Welcome back! Here's what's changed. (Updated for 2.5!)

It's important that you understand the roots of the outrage. As the Founding Fathers knew, sex was a depraved and dangerous thing, which might well lead to dancing.

Please read the whole thread before you respond.

Also, I don't know where everyone is from but here pronography is classed as prostitution. They are one and the same. Not the distribution of it, but the act of producing it.

Names such as "Iwillpwnyou" have no place in an MMORPG. They should be altered.

People make fun out of trying to manipulate the naming policies/filters, and should also be punishable.
But we should restrict player name creativity of course

I don't actually object to game companies making rules about naming in games; Trion is not the government, so there's no 1st amendment issues.

That said, I am fine with name restrictions being limited to RP servers. If people find names like that unpleasant, they should be on an RP server. If a lot of people find names like that unpleasant, we'll end up with more RP servers.

Right now, there are places where it's not legal, and the Supreme Court has not yet ruled that such laws are unconstitutional. (I will say, they're stupid and get a lot of people killed, but they don't seem to be unconstitutional to my casual reading. I am not a lawyer, though.)

The vote was 7-2 and it was bi-partisan. This is a landmark decision for gaming and a huge win for the US. Despite what Sinndel thinks. Freedom of speech is one of the greatest protections we as a society have.

Conservative chief justice John Roberts rattled off a description of the game postal and said there's an american tradition to protect children from content like that, while left-leaning Stephen Breyer wondered why it wasn't "common sense" for the state to require that parents be the ones buying those games, should a kid wind up with one.

This tells the story i think.

While I aprove of this in theory, I can't help but think games such as Manhunt, Postal or even, yes, the GTA series, where violence is cheap and everywhere for no apparent reason other than the sake of violence, should be banned indeed.

On one hand I agree with this, and on the other hand I like the fact that they can't be.

Pornography is. Prostitution? That doesn't make sense.
    Thanks for the haircuts.
