    Default MMO and player collision

    Hey
I have just a small question, what do you think, if player can't go though other player in the game ? do you like this idea or you think, it's wrong and it will make problems ? for example raids.

I much prefer player collision. In Warhammer for instance, you can physically block doors to castles with your tanks to stop the advancing evil doers. However, I do read that it is very server intensive, and has been a lag issue in WAR.

    Heathkit H-89; 16 KB CPU; 90 KB Zenith HD; 5.25" H/Z-87; HDOS.

WAR only turned collision detection on when flagged for PVP..

Great for PVP, but it was a pain for PVE.

AoC has collision detection as well. It makes for some unique tactics.

*edit: just watch the video that Adria posted, lol, good times.

Yer I really enjoyed player collision in PvP - when the opposition is going in to savage your healer a few extra seconds can make all the difference - and sometimes that meant sticking your body in front. It kinda created a sense of desperation and sacrifice (when everything else was on cd!!)
My shiny carapace is cracked. I should have never left the sea. Krugon.

The problem with WAR's collision detection is that it was coded with a body part that would be censored if i mentioned it.
But i'd say that all pvp feels dull without now that i've tasted it

Once you've played a (PvP) game with collision detection, anything else just feels cheap and incomplete (imo). Warhammer may have not been that great of a game (also imo), but they definitely got the collision detection part right (don't remember AoC even though I played it to max level at the time).

How can you forget AoC with it's finishers and boobs-a-plenty? :P

For the collision detection, they added a skill called Crouch or something like that, that let you sort of crouch walk at a slow pace to walk through people, in case someone was blocking you in a corner or griefing.

Yes, and players can phsyically block doors to ANYWHERE, or blockade vendors/other NPCs. I HATE collision. AoC has a huge problem with that. It's bad enough that people mammoth camp the mailboxes in WoW, but at least you can get THROUGH them. In collision-based games, you're kinda screwed until someone decides to move.

LOL, sorry, I remember the boobs and the finishers (both of which I really enjoyed, nothing better than lopping off a head). What I meant was that I don't remember there being collision detection in that game. ;)

Yeah, nothing like a bunch of trolls standing shoulder-to-shoulder so you can't get into a dungeon.

Griefers love collision, this is the main reason it's not around. Two players can stand in a door, go AFK, and keep other players from doing quests and such until a GM shows up to move them.

I'm totally devoted to disturbing the peace.
