    Default All Along The Watchtower

So this song came over my iPod the other day, and I thought... "This is The Forgotten's (my guild's) and other Ascended's theme song!"

There must be some way out of here
Said the joker to the thief
    There's too much confusion
    I can't get no relief

    Businessmen, they drink my wine
    Plowmen dig my earth
None of them along the line
Know what any of it is worth

    No reason to get excited
    The thief, he kindly spoke
There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke

But you and I, we've been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now
    The hour is getting late

    All along the watchtower
    Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
    Barefoot servants, too

    Outside in the distance
    A wildcat did growl
    Two riders were approaching
    The wind began to howl
    -- Bob Dylan

    My thoughts, stanza by stanza...

    * Dialog between joker and thief, two rogues who want to escape the doomed future or the chaos of the rifts. The constant fighting among Defiant and Guardian, "none of them along the line/know what any of it is worth," "it" being the wine (luxury) of the earth (Telara), both products and property of hardworking people.

    * "There are many here among us/Who feel that life is but a joke," that's The Forgotten guild, and many Ascended in general. We don't think that "life" literally is a joke, but the way people are living, fighting, with political squabbles is stupid.

    * "But you and I, we've been through that/And this is not our fate" = "Some of us have really lived, all of us have died," from our guild charter, and how the Ascended have had visions of the future. Obviously, "the hour is getting late" = the Ward is falling and the end of the world is on the horizon.

    * "All along the watchtower/Princes kept the view" = Zareph standing on the balcony in Mathosia during the Shade War (Guardian starting zone), and also how the princes, Zareph and Aedraxis, and those in power merely watched "While all the women came and went/Barefoot servants, to" ie. died in the war between them.

    * "Outside in the distance/A wildcat did growl" the threat of Regulos is heard beyond the Ward. "Two riders were approaching/The wind began to howl" = Cyril and Asha, leaders of the factions, beginning the resistance.

You know, when I first saw this I thought you were talking about the Quest in Vanilla WoW XD
I was once on a vegetarian diet, I quit though. Turns out Vegetarians are harder to catch and kill than cows and the meat is too stringy.

Yeah, that stupid WoW quest... :P I wonder if Dylan still gets royalties for this.

Sure wish artists would stop recording this. Bob did it first and Jimmy did it best. Leave it alone!

    Default I have to wonder...

I have to wonder what Bob Dylan makes of these games.

Imagin Jimi Hendrix playing Rift, had he not cut his life off so soon. I have to guess it didn't feel like 'soon' to him, but it sure was too soon for me.

Well, that wasn't my conscious intent... I just wanted to share an interpretation that I thought only other Rifters would know... but no matter where I post this, the only discussion it sparks is Dylan's version vs Hendrix's :P How about the Rift version!
