Default Game to pass the time...

Hey guys. So I have been thinking. Ive been so wrapped up in following Rift and doing other things like programming that I did not realize this but I do not belong to any MMO community at the moment. I was wondering if you guys could recommend a game I should try or play while I wait on Rift. Here is a list of the games Ive played and still have subscriptions even if they are expired will be marked with a *.
    • Everquest
    • Everquest II *
    • DAOC
    • Vanguard Saga of Heroes*
    • WoW
    • Eve
    • LOTRO*
    • Istaria(Horizons)
    • Fallen Earth
    • Allods*
    • Runes of Magic
    • SWG
    • RYL
    • RYL2
    • Myst Online
    • Tabula Rasa (RIP)
    • AoC
    • Dark Fall
    • Dark & Light (RIP)
    • Lineage
    • Lineage 2
    • TCoS

As you can see Ive played a lot of games, and Ive even tried a lot more. I cant seem to find anything now that can hold my attention long enough to continuously play. I may even be willing to subscribe to one of the games above IF there has been enough changes in community etc.

Well, LOTRO is super easy until you get to the end game. Its PvP is lackluster.

I recommend Portal or Halo 2 Vista (it's an old game but still has a strong community).

The same for me, ok, maybe with one less super.

But I am looking forward to pass the time with 2 games about to launch fall 2010:
    Elemental and Civillization V
    www.elementalgame.com
    www.civilization5.com
Totally different genre, of course, but still worth playing. They should keep me busy some months at least.

I can only recommend Bad Compagny 2.
Think what said Pharone can go with all mmogs. They are super super boring.

If you're looking for an MMO that is similar to what most of the other people here are hoping Rift will be, try Vanguard. Population is an issue unless you get in with a good guild, but they will be merging servers soon to help take care of that issue.

Also, I've just recently had to cancel my MMO subs and had to find something new to play. Wound up with an XBox 360 and have become horribly addicted to Fallout 3 and Oblivion. Both non-mmos but hours of fun anyway.

Some good games not on your list....

    City of Heroes

The game's been around forever and is still going strong.

Character customisation is excellent - both in terms of cosmetics and power selection. It goes way beyond what you get in EQ-style MMOs.

Best team gameplay mechanics of any MMO I've played - and I've played most of the games on your list and more besides.

Make you sure you go to King's Row when you hit level 5 and start doing radio missions so you can get a bank mission. This will give you a temporary travel power that will last you until you can pick up a permanent one at level 14.

Game doesn't really start to show it's strength until post level 20, by which time you'll have a decent selection of powers to play with.

    Anarchy Online

Another oldie, but unlike CoH it's really showing it's age.

The original game is currently free to play. You only need to subscribe if you want to access the expansions.

Nice game. Lots of interesting classes. Character customisation could be described as overly complicated. It'd be a real turn off to a lot of players.

Almost requires the Clicksaver addon to play properly.

    Aion

It's a WOW-clone with more anime style graphics.

Decent game with a few minor upgrades to the EQ-style of MMO.

It couldn't hold my attention for long but it was a decent game.

Thanks for all of the suggestions and most of which you have suggested Ive played already, such as Fallout 3 and Oblivion time and time again. I am actually enjoying Allods again for the time being. I may resub to AoC but I am not completely sure about that, as I have not heard if the population is any better than the last time Ive played.

As for Vanguard I love the game, it was just that there was not enough players around when I played last so I unsubbed. The server merge officially should be complete today or it may already be complete I just have not checked the forums this morning. If it is I may resub over the weekend while I am in NJ on vacation so I will have something fun and exciting to keep me sane with the wife's side of the family LOL!

I'm playing Mass Effect 1/2 again. Can't go wrong there but it's not that long.

AO is a good option as was mentioned since it does have many different classes, involved crafting, and lots of skill selections for character builds. They just did a graphics overhaul but I have no idea how much that improved the dated looks.
