Default RIFT Android Authenticator - Now Available!

    Hi everyone,

It’s our pleasure to announce the release of the RIFT Mobile Authenticator for Android devices (v1.6 or higher). As mentioned earlier we have been hard at work developing and implementing two-factor authentication for multiple mobile devices in order to provide additional security options for our players.

Two-factor authentication provides an extra layer of security making it much harder for insidious individuals to gain unauthorized access to your account, even if your computer has been compromised. This is an entirely optional (but highly recommended!) security measure that offers users invaluable extra protection.

Players can download the Mobile Authenticator at no cost from the Android Marketplace. In addition we’re finalizing a version for Apple devices running iOS 3.0 or higher, the free app will be available to players on iTunes upon its release. We’ll announce more details about the iOS version once it’s available and we hope to release additional versions for other platforms and devices in the future.

To use the authenticator simply run the patcher to login to the game as you normally would. When prompted, provide the code generated by the application on your Android device in addition to your username and password.

As always we encourage you to maintain a strong password even with the use of an authenticator. Never share your passwords with others and avoid links or sites you don’t trust or are unfamiliar with.

We’ll continue to develop new ways to ensure your adventures in Telara are safe and secure so you can focus on enjoying the game. You can activate your authenticator in your account center and encourage you to share your feedback and questions in this thread.

    Thanks for playing!

    Yus!

    Piece of mind

Also, I'm just going to make a wild assumption that since the android authenticator is available before the iphone one, androids are better :P

    Default No Smart Phone

I have a boring old non-smart mobile phone. Other games allow you to purchase a hardware authenticator. Does Trion plan to introduce one?

Not everyone has an Android or Iphone, or even a phone that can load apps - do you plan on having a physical authenticator at some point? I know I'd pay for one.

Mals beat me to it lol.

Android does not require an approval process, as well having an easier(relatively) programming language(java, vs iphone's Objective C). Android I believe is also much more organized(ie. consistent naming, functions sorted, detailed documentation).

I don't have an android phone or an iphone. I can afford up to £10 say for a authenticator like in the other game (hehe getting to be like that other play this.

Before people come back with "They are cheap, go change your plan, you are cheap you lazy so and so" I am forced to live on benefits after a near death experiance 5 years ago, and have a nice £5 a month contract for all I need, but that comes at the price of not having upgraded my phone. I cannot afford to upgrade my phone to the regular monthly contracts that they give out the free phone that you need for the authenticator one just for one game.

I would be more than happy for a one off expense but not change my phone for an ongoing financial expense.

Unless anyone knows a work around for me in the UK or I am reading all this wrong please help.

Unless something has changed, they plan on allowing you to use text messages for authentication if you don't have a smartphone, however they don't plan on releasing a hardware authenticator dongle like Blizzard does.
