Default Lockbox overhaul: sooner rather than later!!!!

I know this is in the works right now but I just completed my Lifter Larceny achievement & got my (more or less) free trove box (& thank you for that). Upon opening it guess what???? I got some Fragments of Horror (useful, kinda, since I don't ever see myself having time to raid unless I win the lottery) and.... wait for it..... a Phenominal Endurance Serum, which I can make 32 of these with my main right now.

Again, this is like getting your stapler off your desk as a birthday present. It Stinks!!!!

These troves are going for 630 credits (patron) right now, and honestly the people buying them probably need Gamblers Anonymous meetings, because the RoI with these stinks. I'm not talking about the disk mount. I am talking about getting your moneys worth. in US dollars you are talking about 4.25-4.50 to buy a trove, and your chances of getting something that sells for less than $.05 on the AH is incredibly higher than that of something that evens out your money spent. As it stands right now, if you dropped the trove prices down to 50 credits, I may, MAY buy one, but as the loot table stands today I won't spend anything more than time, & not much of that going after these things. It's not worth it.

Loot revamp is on the whiteboard and thank God for that!! You, the devs at Trion listen to your customer base and that's great, but I think this is something that needs to be moved up the priority list. Lockboxes are an excellent way to pay for developing and maintaining this game, and I want to see them flourish, but to have that happen they really need an overhaul sooner rather than later.

As seen in other threads about lockboxes...
    - no more craftable items in it
    - instead of equipment of any kind, put in a token, and the player can then trade the token for anything he wants from the veteran vendor
    - a wide spread of any usefull currency (no plat.) according to the players level
    - of course the promotion special item as it is now
    - last but not least, some extra fluff like costume parts, tradeable and not counting as "loot", but as mentioned as an extra to the real loot
and not just for the lockboxes you can buy, but for those you can get as patron or find as loot too.

Overall changes that would really make you want to open a lockbox, instead of just wanting to get rid of them as soon as you come across one...

While i do have decent luck with lockboxes. The drop rates of items in them are rather low. They are meant to be a means of gambling. You take a gamble opening one. Its like a scratch off lottery ticket. But a few times i have gotten things worth less than $1 if you just bought it and rarely get things worth as much as the box.

Trion prices their credit stuff extremely high. Guess they are looking for the super slow dollar instead of the fast steady nickle. Their is a lot in the store i might would buy if it were more reasonably prices.

Transcendent Vials for roughly $8-9.... really are you high? Whoever decides these prices must be pushing a 7 figure salary because obviously real money has little value to them. $4 for artifact tracking and it doesnt even track every type of artifact for a very short 30 minutes. Im thinking like 24 hours of play time on that and it tracks all artifacts. the level 60 bundles are really awesome over 100k credit for T2 level 60 raid. Even buying the best credit package your still at about $600 for level 60 T2 raid gear...which probably is crap now for a level 60.

I bet they would get a lot more people spending credits with lower prices and little helpful items rather than spending big ticket items. Personally i would like to see a credit for in game currency exchange. With the exchange rate dependent on what level the currency was for. And the store needs updated to reflect the outdated gear. Either take it out or make it extremely cheap.

Default 5 Arclight Troves = bubkiss

I have to agree with OP. Back when the arclight rider event was going I bought 5 event troves. I learned my lesson the hard way and will not be buying event troves in the future.

The comparison to scratch tickets is good. Putting a picture of an awesome mount that you have little to no chance of getting with the trove is misleading, IMO.

I agree with the Troves. Whenever I had got one it was always something craftable (that I could totally craft myself) or some Weapons that were a downgrade for me. If Trion wants to keep the gamble boxes they should remove those. The mounts should stay but other rewards should be some Accelerators, pets (but only those not already collected), costumes (only ones not already collected by player), Token, Notoriety, Favor, and Experience Vials would be ok (although I have quite amount myself). All items from lockboxes should be tradeable as well.

I am not opening any more boxes until we get a lockbox overhaul. Thankfully patron boxes are account bound & I can park them on a bank alt.

Are you new to how advertising and gambling works? Of course they put a picture of a yacht, or a speedboat, or 10,000,000 on lottery tickets. They do this in order to get you to forget that the most likely outcome of buying one is that you're throwing your money away not that you'll become a millionaire.

Search the forums. You'll see no end of these threads and they are, quite simply, an outpouring of gambling remorse, i.e. I spent cash I really shouldn't have on gambling, I didn't win big, and now I think it's the casino's fault I've lost my house due to debt.

Why would Trion fix what's in the boxes and/or the price of the boxes when there's enough suckers buying them already?

... would be nice to see the current new lockbox also in the weekly patron gift.

Id just want a *buys (Number) ammount of boxs and the next box will give you "Best loot possible"

In this case, say maybe 30 or 40 boxs with a chance of a levitate throughout but if u want it for sure. u gotta buy that many.

Or a % increase in chance drop per box opened (like a buff that lasts 1 hour or something) ever increasing your chance of receiving the most sought after item from them.

Thats the only way i can see it being implemented.

    BUT

remeber this is a business and they won't just hand things to you without either very hard work (AKA long and difficult achievements) Or by spending.

ALSO remember, alot of the stuff complained about from boxs are fluff items or of no use to you in a major way. Some runes are good but minor.

I myself buy boxs sometimes to test my luck. these days i limit myself to 5 or less when something "oh shiny" shows up

The runes usually sell on the AH for roughly the amount you spent getting a key.

As far as the items, I like them. Even if they're not always upgrades they make good costume pieces for alts, and every once in a while you get currency boosts & stuff like that.

But then again, I don't buy boxes, only the keys when I happen to have a box.
