Default A few short (3-4 button) ability bars

Purpose - to allow a player to position a couple abilities somewhere on the screen for convenience, without using one of the full 10-ability bars.

Some of the issues with the large bars are that they:

    1) can't be positioned with a few empty slots hanging off the screen. the game will automatically reposition them so that the full bar is within the game screen on the next login

    2) an ability bar blocks interaction with the environment behind the bar. A player cannot select or interact with anything behind an ability bar, even if the ability bar in that area does not hold an ability (ie., player can see through bar but cannot interface with whatever is 'behind' the bar).

Or just allow us to make a few bars of our own length. Addon creators in both WoW and Rift have done this (X Macros for Rift, although currently broken with 2.1).

You can set ability bars to not show empty boxes. This way you can have it as long or short as you want.

You can, and it may look like empty space but you cannot click anything behind it.

Rifts UI is a joy to customise but for the more anal retentive types among us, adding more flexibility especially with ability bars is always a good thing.

Is #1 the case now? Just a few patches ago I had 5 bars hanging vertically with only 4 slots each not off screen. It worked fine. Maybe because they weren't attached to anything else but each other?

I agree it would be cool though, I like putting my consumables on a little 4x5 bar between my main bar and my bags; it makes me use them more often.

Will have to test tonight, but I'm failry sure you can click through.

I have a bar floating in the middle of my screen with just 1 button on for an abilitry I like to monitor.

Tested and you're right, can't click through.

Would indeed be nice if you could.

This really is a sad indication how easy this game is to play, if all you need are 4 buttons most of the time.

well i would use it for a buff bar and perhaps another for pots
as it is my ui has half filled bar on it anyway i jus had to shrink it and place it out of the way so the blank spaces dont block action

Or possibly multiple bars side and bottom but with shorter bars strategically placed in different areas of the screen?

If you're only using 4 buttons you're doing it wrong.

And whatever you're using you couldn't really miss the point more.

I don't think however scaslable bars is the best solution, best solution would be to make empty boxes click through. I think that would give more flexibility.
