    Default Warfront Ideas!

This thread is for laying out ideas for future warfronts, and for improving warfronts in general. If you have any ideas that you would like to share, please feel free to post them here.

Here are a few warfronts I'd like to see:

    GLOAMWOOD MAZE

A lost grove in Gloamwood has become a trap for a Defiant scout, and a deadly snare for a Guardian who dared to leave Gloamwood Pines. It is within this forgotten section of the forest that these two mortal enemies must fight to the death. Only one will emerge victorious.

The purpose of this warfront is simply to duke it out one-on-one with an opponent. Because this can give rise to balance issues, you are free to select opponents of equal class, rank, and valor. Keep in mind, however, that is up to you before you enter the warfront -- if you, a rank one mage, want to face a rank six rogue with 240 valor, knock yourself out . This warfront is available starting at level 20 (obviously, the class and valor options are available from the start, but the rank option is only available at level 50).

The layout of the warfront is, as you might expect, a maze. A gigantic tree in the centre of the grove, with roots spreading out in all directions, provides the most obvious obstacle. Smaller obstacles include an array of rock piles, smaller trees, fallen logs, and the like. Two tunnel entrances (one on the Defiant side and one on the Guardian) provide access to underground tunnels that are, like the grove above, laid out in a maze.

There are no capturable objectives in this warfront; the objective is simply for two players to face each other. There are, however, special orbs scattered throughout the maze(s) that players can consume to heal 1k health and gain +5% damage for 30 seconds (stackable). These orbs are not capturable; once touched, they give their effect and disappear for 2 minutes. The two players simply run around the maze, trying to kill each other. The first person to get five kills wins (btw, there is no time limit).

    STILLMOOR BATTLEFIELD

Two ancient keeps from Mathosia of old stare at each other across a broken battlefield. The Guardians have claimed the keep to the north, while the Defiant have taken the keep in the south. Each faction wishes to take the other's fortress, while keeping their own. It is here, on this forsaken battlefield, that twenty warriors from each faction will lock in brutal combat, as each besieges the other's fortress. However, between the foes lies a massive no-man's land of stinking quagmires, decaying corpses, and jagged stone. In the sky above, dark clouds gather, anticipating the storm that is to come.

As you might have guessed, each faction controls a ruined keep, and wishes to capture the opposing one (or destroy it; more on that in a moment). A massive battlefield lies between. Running across this field is the only way to reach the opposing side's fortress (but you probably already guessed that ).

Upon the walls of your keep you will find catapults similar to the ones in Zareph's Return. These catapults can be fired at the opposing fortress to kill enemies within. If you are hit, you die instantly, no matter how much health and mitigation you have. The catapults can also be used to damage the opposing fortress, if you wish to do that instead of capture it. The only problem is that this is really, really slow (each fortress has 8 million hp, and each catapult shot does 40k damage -- that's 200 hits). Further complicating this, you can run to the centre of the battlefield (there's a small pool in the middle, surrounding a mini-island with a dead tree) and grab slabs of stone and planks of wood that can be used to repair the fortress (though tbh, this process is even slower than catapulting the fortress to death, so you're really just delaying the inevitable).

If you'd prefer to capture the opposing fortress rather than destroy it, within the centre of each keep (behind many doors) lies a flag. You capture these flags Codex style to gain points for your faction. The only problem is, the flag is within your enemies' fortress, and even if you capture theirs, there is still a chance they will capture yours. In fact, you gain bonus points for holding both your flag and your opponents'. Holding the enemy flag nets you 2 points every 5 seconds, but holding both flags nets you 5 points every 5 seconds. (If you're worried about the prospect of having a dozen or more enemies within your fortress, don't worry -- the spawn points are located in a completely different room from the flags, atop an unscalable wall -- the stairs broke.) The first team to gain 2000 points (or destroy the enemy base) wins.

    Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? Positive criticism?

Harold Camping predicted the end of Rift PvP would be the day they implemented arena (to the 1v1 idea). Nothing could kill this game any faster than people crying about how rock beats scissors beats paper.

More warfronts would always be awesome. I just pray to god the game is never balanced around arenas...

You can put lipstick on a pig, but that doesn't mean you can take it to prom.

    Rift did it to wow.

I feel like I've played these BG's before..but there's only so much to do with an MMO in terms of PvP objectives other than getting somewhere, clicking an item, or killing someone

What I want to see is already in development. Four new zones specifically designed for world PvP (Port Scion: Fallen, Planetouched wilds, can't think of the others)

As for your specific idea? You have the idea, you just need mechanics that aren't copied.

Change the battlefield from two keeps to one keep, have two 10-20min rounds of attack and defend, since currently there is no "king of the hill" style PvP instanced.

As for your maze? I don't see it going anywhere. The only thing I can think of is make it purely PvE based (maybe brief PvP skirmishes) where its a random maze with obstacles in the way that a team has to do faster than the other team.

Even then, people would eventually memorize all the maps/challenges and the warfront would get stale just like the others.
