    Default Happy 10th Anniversary Rift!

Congrats on 10 years of Rift!

Here's some of what Ten Ton Hammer said about Rift back in 2011. (via Metacritic)
    https://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/rift

"Taking the best aspects of the games that came before it, improving on them and adding its own unique elements has Rift poised to be a long term power in the MMOG community."

Don't overcelebrate like the guy below.

Here's some Rift stuff from 2011 on TrionWorlds.com and Riftgame.com courtesy of the Wayback machine internet archive.Unfortunately, not many graphics were archived.

    Jan. 2011 Press Release

"The launch of RIFT is the culmination of our tireless efforts over the past several years to bring players the most complete, full-featured, and dynamic online game they've ever experienced," said Lars Buttler, CEO of Trion Worlds. "Through the dedication, creativity, and incredible track record of our veteran development team, we've been able to create an exceptionally polished and immersive online world filled with adventure, surprise, and beauty. We can't wait to share RIFT with players around the world."

Default Happy birthday, please make it many more BD's to come in the future!

I love being back, the irony that RIFT would now get cancelled, would slay me.

Praying there'll be a RIFT birthday next year, and waiting for balloon stomping also!

My question was, what is there to celebrate?

Your example was "the birth of his son was a cause for celebration."

To use your same language, The 10 year anniversary of the launch of Rift on March 1, 2011, was a cause for celebration.

Here's a user review on Metacritic from March 11, 2011, which provides reasons for celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Rift launch.

This could seriously be the best MMO Ive ever played, everything is running smoothly. The dynamic world with the rifts are wonderful. I got hooked during the beta, ordered the Collectors Edition and are 100% satisfied."

In exploring archived Rift webpages from 2011, I came across an old feature on the official Rift website called Tales of Telara. It had at least 6 episodes of a tale called "The Boar Spear." The title character seems to be a Rogue Ranger named Hugo Waldemar who is back from the dead.

Another nice feature on the archived official Rift website from 2011 was a list of Rift fansites. The archived page is from July 2011 and there are dozens of Rift fansites including those in Russia, France, Greece, Hungary and Italy.

    https://web.archive.org/web/20110727...y/fansites.php

I recognize several that are still online, e.g. Telarapedia, Magelo and Ten Ton Hammer, although no longer updated.

Pay attention to the date. LOL it's the 6th anniversary. The second last anniversary under Trion before Gamigo took over.

You missed Gamigo's recognition of Rift's 8th Anniversary.

OMG! How did this turn into a ........!

I celebrate Rift cause I love this game with or without all the stuff you write about Trion, Gamingo, Rift devs ect. Im happy for 10 years and we are still here. Thank you.

If you dont want to celebrate Rift's 10th birthday cause your bitter/sad/angry about what is not happening with the game. That is ok too

I believe the bitterness comes from love/enjoyment of the game. A game no longer what it used to be (or ever was for some ppl). That you feel ignored after you been trying for so long to point out the wrongs, what needs to be changed or should have been done so we didnt end up where we are right now. You have invested both money and time, perhaps even endless hours spend posting on boards too to get Trion or Gamingos attention to fix things. It leaves you with bitterness and emptyness, sad, angry, perhaps even well-informed when you feel like no one listen or care.

They might ask for playerfeedback, but its their choice what to do with the feedback. Its their vision, their game and their desicions. Did they handle the feedback poorly so they lost players and as a result turned Rift into a "dead" game, perhaps. Do you wish they had listened, with all the effort you put into the feedback, indeed.

Did you pay for a copy of the game, perhaps, but in the end did you not enjoyed yourself countless hours and still able to log into the game to play - even so if you no longer enjoy it but just log into boards.

I am sure they know what went wrong, both Trion and Gaminigo. Endless posts of telling them of the what, where, and how gives them a pretty good idea.

Accept things as they are, there is NOTHING you can say that will change it anyway.
If you have a need to still post and point out you feel unapriciated for money spend, advise and feedback given just to find yourself being ignored, then do it. That is ok too
But please could you do elsewhere - create a thread.... "why there is nothing to celebrate". TY

I didn't start Rift until the first Carnival of the Ascended in March 2012. I was particularly impressed by all the parades in Silverwood and Freemarch, I remember the carnival games as being in Sanctum and Meridian rather than Tempest Bay.

Here's the description from the Rift site courtesy of the Wayback Machine:
    http://web.archive.org/web/201203311...ded-events.php

    "Carnival of the Ascended
    Step right up

Not yet a year old, RIFT™ has released enough content updates to leave other MMOs in the dust. To celebrate our first anniversary, we're throwing the most extravagant World Event yet! You've never seen a party like this, with hours of new solo, group, raid, PvP, crafting gameplay, and more event quests than ever before!

In these turbulent times, the people of Telara have arranged a festival to honor their immortal protectors. Giant floats mock the dragons as parades prepare to set forth across the great roads. Carnival boats sail for Fortune’s Shore to host and oversee the games and booths going up around the bay, promising a joyful riot of laughter and light."

Below are webpage graphics for the 1st Carnival of the Ascended and one of many Rift wallpapers available.

I came across a player video of the first Carnival of the Ascended in 2012 and noticed that it ran from 2/22 to 4/11, nearly 7 weeks. There were 6 phases instead of the current 3. There were also fewer events and fewer items to buy back then so maybe Carnival should be extended again.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_91GuDj0EL0

The video shows the carnival games set up in Meridian and also on the shore and boats in Fortune's Shore since there was no Tempest Bay yet. There were also games in Sanctum.

I also remember picking up lots of Parade Cores and being attacked by the parade guards if I got too close to a parade of the opposite faction. I don't think they are hostile like that now. It was also fun when a parade ran across a group of planar invaders. The parade made short work of them.

Here's a video showing the carnival games in Sanctum in 2012.

Another mostly forgotten aspect of Rift's first year is all their award nominations and wins. The Rift official website used to have a list of Acclaim and Awards.

    https://web.archive.org/web/20130302...ity/awards.php

Rift won several major awards including MMORPG.com 2011 Game of the Year, Game Developer's Choice Awards Best New Online Game of 2011 and GDC Awards: Best Online Technology of 2011. Rift also was nominated for a GDC Best Live Game of 2012 but lost out to League of Legends.

One major nomination even Rift did not list was for a 2012 BAFTA Video Games Award for Best Debut Game. BAFTA stands for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. Rift lost out to Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet.

That nomination even merited Rift an Internet Movie Database listing, which includes names of the Rift voice actors. Shyla Starhearth, Princess Miela and various others were voiced by Cissy Jones, a very prolific voice actress who also did voices for World of Warcraft, Wildstar and many other video games.

The top image is a background from the Rift official site. The other 3 are from the IMDB page.

Default "We're Not in Azaeroth anymore"

Rift's March 2011 debut was even more highly anticipated because of Trion's direct challenge to World of Warcraft with their advertising slogan "We're not in Azeroth anymore."

It was used in both print ads and a 30-second TV spot.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpXoNaiPfT8

Needless to say Rift's challenge to WOW did not last.
