    Angry Brainless SPE DPS ?

    Hi,

Rift is an amaaaazing game which offer the possibility to have aoe dps specs.
Given that healers and tanks do not deserve to die at each boss for "saving time", go l2p saboteur, stormcaller or whatsoever.
Healers and tanks are kinda rare (mono spec dps players, hello) so don't make them late on their fragments.

    Regards,

Even if you had the best aoe specs and everyone was playing them in a group, it would still take more time than needed/wanted to clear dungeons. Trash doesn't have any useful drops to make them worth anyone's time which is why everyone skips them. Trion knows this and has stated they're testing out raids and dungeons without trash kills (outside of any rehashed ones). The first of those was/is Tartaric Depths where you just go from boss to boss without any trash at all.

Unless they add in something to the loot table then people will skip and it turns into wasted development time implementing them. That's better off spent in other areas at that point.

There's no point in killing trash that drops nothing, not even grey vendor garbage. I don't know why you have "save time" in air quotes, because it really does save a lot of time, which counts, especially when people are on the 100 SPE portion of their weapon quest. Killing trash adds hours to completion. Some people might even have limited time available to play, so time-saving strategies are important.

Maybe if Trion made trash drop something valuable, more people would be willing to kill it. Until then, it's a literal waste of time. Form your own groups if you want to kill trash.

Isn't there a miniscule chance at eternals?

As far as I know, something has to have the ability to drop loot in order to have a chance at dropping eternals. Coven and Ananke trash don't drop anything, not even grey loot or trash frags, so they wouldn't drop eternals. I could be wrong, but I can't imagine something with no loot table in the first place having a chance at dropping something that belongs on a loot table. Gyel fortress and IDD could drop eternals, though.

Default No loot in trash - no kills

I totally get why no one would kill trash packs if there is zero reward. It does waste time if only the bosses drop anything worthwhile. That said.... dungeons or raids without mobs seems pretty lackluster. They are supposed to slow the group down- provide a way for lagging players to catch up, and provide some loot for the effort. If developers do not waste "time and xp" on mobs it will make upcoming dungeons/raids way too fast and somewhat boring- IMHO. Dropping plat would be nice. It is so freaking hard to earn plat it would create a great incentive to kill mobs.

Would it not make more sense to make killing them worthwhile?

Trash could drop gold, craft items or perhaps have a chance to drop a tier piece needed to complete a set.

It certainly would, but as Rivkah already pointed out, it really comes down to a lot of people having limited time to play and will do any and everything they can to make the most of their time. Even if you added in extra coin or crafting materials (which have existed in past dungeons) people would still skip them to maximize their time and get more dungeons in and more currency in turn. That also doesn't even take any other variables into account such as people not using proper specs, rotations, not knowing fights, ninja afks, ninja drops. People have been looking for and finding ways to skip trash since vanilla and the devs know all of this. You don't want to put in money and time into something only a small portion of the playerbase (that doesn't know how/want to to skip) is going to do. This goes for stuff like revamping old zones, dungeons ect. Hence their effort to find new ways to hopefully make dungeons and raids still engaging, find and challenging, but without adding in the timesink and wasted effort that trash mobs are.

If they really wanted people to kill trash then they would add in the dropped Eternals with a significantly higher drop chance than from anything else, but those those eternals specifically are a separate discussion.
