    Default Auction House Fee Simplification

    Hi all,

We've simplified auction house fees in RIFT 2.8: Hotfix #8. Here's a more detailed breakdown on how things will work after the patch!

    Auction House Fee Simplification
The long and short of it is this: any item that sells on the auction house results in a commission fee being paid. For any item that doesn't sell, a listing fee paid instead.

    Who pays commission fees?
A 5% commission fee is applied when any sale on the auction house is completed. The player who pays the 5% commission fee is whoever created the listing; so if a Bob places an auction and Carol buys that auction, Bob is the one who pays the commission. Alternatively, if Alice places a buy order and Ted fulfills that buy order, Alice is the one who pays the 5% commission fee.

In the cases where a buy order is resolved by an auction, or vice versa, the commission fee charges whoever was the first to list. The auction house doesn't double dip and charge both players 5% in this case.

If an auction expires, then no commission fee is charged. If a buy order expires, then the commission fee is refunded to the player.

    Who pays listing fees?
Listing fees are charged for any auction or buy order that expires. These fees increase with the amount of time that the item or order was listed for: the longer the listing, the higher the fee. If an auction sells, or a buy order is purchased, then the player is refunded their listing fee.

    When are these fees paid?
For buy orders, the larger of either the commission or the listing fee is paid as an up front deposit when the buy order is placed. The portion of the deposit that is unconsumed is returned to the player when the buy order is completed, cancelled, or expired.

For auctions, only the listing fee is taken as an up front deposit when the auction is placed. The commission fee is automatically taken out of the of the money sent to the seller once the item sells.

    Buying and selling partial stacks
The commission and listing fee is applied on an item by item basis. If a stack of 99 items is placed for sale, and only 40 of them sell before the auction expires, then the commission fee is applied to the 40 that sold, and the listing fee is applied to the 59 that were returned to the seller.

Just corrected some faulty grammar! Statement now reads as:

"...any item that sells on the auction house results in a commission fee being paid..."

(I accidentally lost a few words.)
