Not necessarily. You'll notice that ALL the grey areas on the current map are absent and the 'edges' of the continent look as if they've been smoothed out.

Perhaps the grey areas will still be there at xpac release but will not be implemented until a future patch. Who knows. This may also be a very old rendition of the world map as it seems to me the mountain formations are off quite a bit?

Actually now that I have the actual game map up and side by side with this one, there's all kinds of things wrong with the Mathosia in that WIP map.

1. No mountains between Silverwood/Moonshade
2. No mountains between Scarwood/Stillmoor
3. Where's Stonefield???
4. Where's the HUGE lake that separates Freemarch and Shimmersand?
5. Most of Droughtlands is mountains in that map. Not the case in game.
6. Gloamwood and Scarlet Gorge are either gone or misconfigured because of the huge mountain range up the center of the WIP map
7. I'd say 95% of that map is completely out of whack.

Theory: an early version of Telara from years ago when they were developing the game. Maybe 2008ish?

I was going to suggest it was just to show scale and rough positioning and that it was best not to take it as detailed map, but I was beaten to it by a far greater mind than mine.

I have to wonder though, with such an increase in the size of the Known world, does this leave the door open for a new race?

It's going to be great!
But I still wish there was going to be more level 6 - 30ish zones/quests etc. And from what I've seen on the forums over the last year, a ton of other people have wanted the same.

QUESTION: How did Real get that map to show on the forum? I've never been able to get a pic to show, just a link to one.

Personally reasons for "NOOOO!!!!!!!" aside, I highly doubt it, in the live stream, the dev (didn't pay attention to know WHO he was, sue me), said that the main reason for this expansions and making these 2 huge continents was because "there's only so much you can put into Shimmersand." In other words, all of this space is for use in end game content updates.

Just take a look at your ingame map, everything there can be increased, Plantouched Wilds for example and of course Firesanddesert, which belong to the mainland but who are not avaiable yet....
