For reference, I still play That Other Game(tm).

One of the many things I love about Rift is that there are no flying mounts. I would not object to them if they were added, but I really do like that we are all wandering over the land together.

Flying mounts would really change how Rifting works too, putting those who are only on land mounts at a severe disadvantage. It's already hard enough to reach a boss when folks with much faster mounts get there and start blowing him up. He dies and you've only just gotten to him, or are only half-way across the zone. Flying mounts would make that many times worse.

So, I'd prefer to not have flying mounts.

I can't stand flying mounts. I am very happy to see Trion avoiding them thus far. If they put them in, I'll deal... but I do enjoy the fact that they aren't here at the moment.

I support burrowing and spelunking, but do not support flight.

    Noooo!

No flying is actually one of the selling points for me when it comes to Rift. It forces you to actually use your mount, on the ground, and you can see people going to and fro! It is wonderful! And no zone is so big that you really NEED flying. I can understand if you want it because you like it but.... noooooo.

Besides, there's achieves for climbing certain mountaints etc. That would be rendered moot. They've wanted us to actually explore in Rift, not just fly over. Remember the times when the explorer title actually meant something in WoW? Yeah, those were the times.

I've walked the same roads enough times, time to let me skip over it. They're boring.

    PS the world IS small.

    Flying in Rift? No thanks.

Flying could mean my hawt ERP sessions get interrupted in Scarlet Gorge, and I rather like the privacy that zone provides currently.

Why on earth do we need flying? This game is far too beautiful graphically to fly over everything. They already did the equivalent of putting a "Gryphon Master" in starting zones...I'd say travel is just fine.

Farewell, Rift! Perhaps we'll meet again.

I would rather see mounts that can swim. Making ground terrain still relevant without the hassle of dismounting and remounting due to a river.

For me, flying mounts would be oki in zones designed explicity for flying and arial combat, like perhaps the plane of air, and maybe underwater mounts for the plane of water. In regular telara without their special powers from those planes, the flying mount can just hover above the ground and move around like a normal mount, and the water mount can glide on the surface of the water like a wave runner.

Think about a raid instance that would require flying mounts on a boss...that actually would be kinda fun as dodging AOEs just got three dimensional, muahahahaha.

    Its all about design.

Unfortunately I need to cast my vote as NOT to Flying Mounts, with reasons AND a caveat.

    Why No?
Because the world is pretty small as it is, and there are certain defenses, terrains, and quests that would be ruined by the flight. Port to Ember Isle, mount up, fly to each of the Travel Stones. Ignore every hostile mob on the road, and those PvPers zipping around on the ground? Good thing they can't hit you on your mount.

    What caveats?
    - Mounted Combat in Flight, complete with the ability to be unsaddled or killed while in mid-air. This would be interesting, but still game-breaking unless the below was considered:
    - A zone DESIGNED for Flying Mounts. Telara itself isn't designed to either give interest or restraints on a free 3rd dimension. There would need to be no-flying Zones, aerial obstacles, huge heights, and restrictions that honestly would make it unlike what you played in WoW.

So instead of asking for Flying, why not ask for Gliding, "Jumping Good", or a Plane of Air zone to go with the Flying.

I think that could be fun, my only issue with it is cost. I imagine a flying mount would be more than our 110s, and the only reason I even have one of those is cause it dropped for me in IAs.

This got me thinking as well. The MAIN defense for Sanctum is our guard with 4M health on the bridge. Add in flying mounts and people will just bypass him and defiants will swarm sanctum.

    Plane of Air = flying
Plane of Water = better underwater travel
Plane of Earth = underground areas and cave systems
Plane of Fire = large areas of battle
Plane of Death = just overall amazingness beyond anything River of Souls shows (but teases at)

More Telara, aka Storm Legion, does not warrant flying mounts at all imo. We'll see once we enter the Planes ;), which I see is pretty clearly set for a 2nd expansion in some way.

This is a very good point

A big NO to flying mounts in Rift.

A zone like the plane of air would make sense to have flying mounts when we get there but I really am in no hurry to see flying mounts added to this game I think they would take to much away from the game. it would change the whole dynamic of zone events and puzzles and cairns
