    Default Coming back or no?

    Hiya all,

I played Rift for a couple of months a fair while ago now and I really really enjoyed the game. I didn't have many negative thoughts about it at all. However my PC back then was just an old crappy laptop that could BARELY play the game on the lowest settings. I decided to stop playing the game because I was getting frustrated with that side of things and I didn't want it to make me eventually go "rawr Rift's a bad game" when it was just my PC.

NEW PC! Woop! I'll def be able to play Rift on highest settings and am now considering coming back to the game. My question is and sorry for it taking so friggin' long.

How's the game been going? Is it surviving well? From what I've read, yes it is. I just want a general opinion from couple of people on what they think of the game now compared to near release and whether they see themselves staying with it.

    Cheers

I think I'm going to come back and see how it is, because I had 0 problems with the game when I played before (other then my own ****ty PC).

I'll make new char's, start from scratch. Any of you guys in a friendly guild that need a new member?
I'll be going on an Oceanic shard (I think it was Briarcliff when I last played)

Dont bother tbh, Rift is now just wow 2, all you do is emblem farm dungeons and invasion farm for stones, its no fun anymore, Trion promised so much and deliver so little, over a year i have waited for this game to get good.

I defended it to all the haters at the start, but in the end they are right its a wow clone.

wait for guild wars 2 or get Tera, which is a lot of fun.

Whether it's a WoW clone or not that doesn't bother me. I enjoyed WoW and still do. If there's no "grind" mechanic in an MMO people would stop playing. No game new or old can get rid of the "grind" because they would have to release new content every day which isn't cost effective or viable.

The only thing new games will do is make grinding look different and package it so it doesn't seem like a grind. It's what MMO's are.

    Thanks for the info though

If you stopped playing a long time ago there is a lot more to do now than when you played last.

I have nothing against grinding, I enjoy grinding I was playing Everquest in 1999, so dont think i dont know what grinding is about.

What i sincerely object to is what we grind for...

stupid god damn Marks of Whatevertheywanttocallitthistime, this takes away all and any sense of achievement, all you have to do is go to the same dungeon and kill it and get your 2 marks, what ever happened to going to a raid to kill a boss that is going to drop loot, once the odd bit that does drop, like weps for eg is gotten,

All anyone goes for is to get the hexed version to gear they all ready have from doing easier content, sounds dumb to me.

Also the game is stuck in a time warp, it promised so much at the start, innovation and in depth way to play an MMO due to the soul system, great i thought i can make my toon do what ever i like, be versitile, and oh wow rogues can tank!

when it comes down to it though all the soul system becomes is a min/max affair, why would someone shoot lightning when its doing less damage than someone shooting fire? there is no real versitility in the soul system, sure in 1 or 2 occasions a certain soul is needed, but then you are forced to use one of your souls for 1 very specific job, thats just bad design.

Then we have the pvp system, which is a complete joke, lets face it, i mean you can afk in them by using a G15 and still get max rank, that requires no skill at all, whats the point.

The raids are tired and boring now, i loved GSB and to a lesser extent RoS, but hk, what a load of garbage, just a note to trion btw, adding a requirement to farm resist gear does not make a raid harder it just forces people to play longer, the only decent fight in HK is Sicaron and thats only cos its a dps race, the rest of the scripted fights are boring and predictable.

Im afraid rift had its chance and for me at least blew it, promised so much delivered so little.

In all honesty it depends on your play style.

Raider? - They just released a new instance, and the old instance is still fun to some of us.

PVPer? - Well Rift is extremely failing in this department.

Roleplayer? - I think it is failing in this department as well.

Like Fluff? - They need more of this.

Pretty much everything in the game is about farming. You farm marks, valor, inscribered, planarite, crafting mats. That is all the game is about.
