    Default Raids part 2.

As i just mentioned in another thread, raids in most MMO is the same. You have some trash to get to the named, and then DPS like mad to kill the named with the i trillion hitpoints.

Thats all nice and good, and what we are used to do, but why not change it up a bit. Instead of having 1 named with a trillion points, lets have one trillion monsters with 1 hp. Thats MUCH more chaotic, and can be alot more fun as well.

Yes the engine must be able to handle it, but i think this engine can. This approach could both be instanced and be in invasions. Its not really an invasion anyway with just a group of mobs.

Hordes of mobs would be so much more fun and hectic.

Come on Trion,i f anyone can pull this off, its you guys!

Good raids are not all about tank and spank or just killing all the mobs. There's more to it than that.
    its = possessive, it's = it is | whose = possessive, who's = who is | your = possessive, you're = you are | too = also or too much, to = to go or to do, two = 2 | their = possessive, there = a place, they're = they are | than = comparative, then = deals with time

With servers that seem to handle anything Trion can throw at them, and the flexibility of the soul system, I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty of encounters that are different than your typical MMO boss fight.

Yes many low hp mobs instead of a big chunky boss. that wont be handled easy by a raid who has to specialize for area damage to get past an encounter.

It cant be as simple as that.

An encounter involving many monsters must also require the other soul setups. You still need a heavy hitting chunky boss in there somewhere. You still need the fires on the floor and you still need new innovative stuff which you didnt encounter before. Like a necro-dragon flying over the encounter area once in a while grabbing people with his claws and turning them into skeletons who then need heals from fall dmg as they land and you can only do that by mind controlling a healer mob in that pile of mobs half the raid is taking care of. and once fully healed the skeletons turn into the players again. And while all this happens a few players has to activate some tractorbeam orbs to pull down the necro dragon so it can be killed and all the hordes of undead monsters stop spawning and suddenly the chest with the quest item (and random good loot) spawns and you won!

    Simplicity is boring

A good raid encounter deals with more than tank and spank. It's gotta have some strat that takes more than a few tries on the first go round to get the mob dead.

There's no raid content that's harder than the management of large numbers of people on a schedule. That's where the challenge of raiding comes in, not whether or not the designers have made fights other than your average tank 'n spank.

Right, so any guild that can get 20 people to log in at the same time can kill any and all end-game content...

With practice and coordination uhmmm yes. Why would or should they not be able to?

Finding 20 people that can logon as often as your guild is scheduled for is one thing.. If they are gonna be useful once logged on is another.

As long as they have a heartbeat, can sometimes switch targets and press at least three buttons (also, not stand in the fire), they will do quite fine.

Actually, you can get rid of everything except "not stand in fire" and they're still serviceable.

I know that the other things are implied by having a heartbeat, but he appears to think all of the above is special. Therefore, clarification.

Actually, the perfect raiders would probably be zombies: They don't need sleep or really much maintenance at all, and they might be slightly more attentive to the fire.
