Every character I have is already "taken," unless I pay.

Shame. Magelo used to be awesome for EQ1.

If I am correct, the issue right now is that someone in your guild synced before so we updated your guild roster and therefore created your character. And now the system thinks someone else has the character while since there is no real owner yet, you should be able to claim it manually without even using magelo sync. I will fix this asap !

In the meantime, you can use magelo sync to claim your characters.

Pay to use? Bonk that. While I get it costs to run it, it's really not worth it unless your off looking for a guild and want to link people your gear.

people refusing to use a service for free cause they can pay for ADITIONAL features and want ANYTHING for free really disturb me ... wondering if those people go into a supermarket (entry is free!) and then demand the goods have to be free too ...

I never said I wouldn't use it. But saying it's free when most of the things you'd like to use about it aren't free is silly <.< You can't even show what guild your in unless you pay for it.

Looks like there is a big misconception about Magelo Sync... Anyone can use Magelo Sync, the info synchronized will just be different depending of your Magelo account status.
1/ Premium member can synchronize their characters automatically using Magelo Sync
2/ Non premium member can add their characters manually providing all the info required (roles, equipment, soul builds,…). They still need to use Magelo Sync to claim back a character if it is already taken for them, to sync their guild status, to sync their guild roster and to list their recipes on the site. All those things are free.

Premium or not, you can use Magelo Sync to show your guild status. And once again, you don't need to pay for that.

By the way, what is your issue with Windows 7 ? We are all using 7 at Magelo so I know our client runs just fine on it...

This is now fixed and unless someone really took your name, you should be able to add your character just fine otherwise, you will have to use Magelo Sync to prove the ownership of the character and claim it back.

I honestly think that almost everybody likes the idea of an 'Armory' but a lot of people have concerns about privacy (there are a number of threads about this on these forums), whether or not we agree with these concerns are another matter entirely but it's clear that people have them. If you were to enable these privacy options I think you'd see your Rift character database grow exponentially. At the moment I don't see a huge number of characters uploaded (although admittedly it's certainly growing).

Your opinion and my opinion about what makes sense means nothing. As I said:

There are many many people who believe in some right to pixel privacy and no argument we have to the contrary will ever convince them otherwise. Sure it defies logic but my point remains that people have these concerns and those concerns will prevent them from using Magelo or any other Armory system unless they feel they have granular levels privacy which they can control.

Jelan, I've noticed a problem recently where a character I added manually cannot be properly synched. It tells me it's been synched successfully but when I go to view it I still have the "edited character" logo in the top left and nothing has changed (no item, rep, talent or achievement updates).

Was this resolved in the patch last night? It's pretty easy to replicate the problem, just create any character you have not synched using the manual method then try and sync it. Even deleting the character and adding it back newly from sync does not fix the problem, as if the old character is still being stored somehow.

Actually don't worry, in hindsight I think it's just me being stupid. I don't have a subscription since my trial lapsed and I'm guessing this is simply how Magelo Sync is designed to work for characters when members aren't subscribed. Guess I'll just have to get that subscription sorted out!

Nope it's still an issue. Seems like any character which you had previous edited online manually will not get synched properly. To duplicate this create an alt (or if you have one which isn't already Mageloed then add that) using the manual method. Then edit something like it's trade skills. Next login to game and use Magelo Sync to update the character, the character will not get updated.

We can see our recipe bank from all guild members and their alts (that are synced) and be able to set up orders even if we are not in game.

The ability to view what is in the guild banks is handy as well.

There are a bunch of handy options and tools that have been great time savers.

Most of us use the free version and still have all of the functionality that really matter.

There are privacy options for those that want them ( I can understand wanting privacy from outside of guild, but there's nothing to hide from guild friends.). We have been able to help each other out with crafted and dropped upgrade since we knew who could use them - just send in a game mail!

I'm used to updating it manually from the old days so paying or not paying for auto sync isnt an issue. It is useful for many things like when I was trying to find a new guild when my old one was dying I could've just linked that which had PA, stats, equip, runes, etc. and made it a lot easier. It's also kinda cool seeing what other people on the forum have done in PA or builds on diff servers that you otherwise couldnt see.

I guess some people will complain about everything

One request would be to add in total PA levels as a stat option for sig.
