What exactly is this I saw?

So Im trying to figure out what it is I witnessed the other day (is it a bird is it a plane haha)
Seriously tho heres what I saw.
One toon was being following around by 3 other toons.
At first I thought maybe some one was just running some people around the zone getting porticullis explored for them untill I took a closer look.
All 4 toons were of the same class and level
The 3 toons following the first all had Identical gear, nothing was different.
So I was just trying to figure out what this is?
Is someone so dedicated to playing Rift that they have 4 clients running?
Is this person taking 'dual' boxing to a whole new level?

This is nothing new. In another MMO I played a guy had a group of five with variations of the name wee. So the server called him weeman.

If that's how someone enjoys spending their time nothing wrong with it, and Trion enjoys his monthy sixty bucks.

Dual. triple, quad and more. It is quite common. There is a 5 boxing cleric on my server. Female dwarves in a guild called <hobbits>. Very amusing and even at lvl 41 (when I saw them) 5 soul drains makes a mess of an invasion force.

Not for just rift, but programs called keyclone and others that just mirror what you do on other clients. It's pretty easy to set up and run, and with some practice you can get quite good at it.

I really wouldn't go there. Whilst most mmo's allow multi-boxing as after all it is just 5 accounts in it's raw state. Using most of the tools available will usually be a bit naughty to some degree. It is a grey area and one which is best left unexplained as pushing for solid info would imho end up in multi-boxing on the whole being stopped.

Some people do use no 3rd party additions whatsoever and those are the people it would do injustice.

These are people ruining yet another MMO by cheating. But no one likes to call it cheating because they are paying 4 or 5 subscription fees. Nevertheless, it is botting no matter how you look at it. One key press controls one character. For the other 3 or 4 characters it's botting. Wait til they get to 50 and come to a warfront near you. Then the "fun" begins.

Look at Eve Online. Some people run much more than that. I suspect there are entire corporations that only have 2 or 3 members.

Rift is no different. There will always be people who do this. It seems odd to me -- coordinating all those toons must take away from the enjoyment of the game.

There's already multibox teams running experts.
And was stated in another thread that Multiboxing was ok, botting on the other hand is not.

Yea it definitely sounds like you saw one of those Power Leveling services in action.
Don't know if the toons were intended to be sold, or just used as some kind of farm bots.

Yea basically people set up five characters all so they can be controlled with one keyboard and do the same ting. It lets them power through content like crazy. It's pretty annoying on a pvp server because all five of them will pretty much one shot an enemy player.
