Anyone who has used the same username/password combo more than ONCE to access any online service, is AT risk. Anyone can setup a website with a forums with some info on it. Then you go in, use the same email address as you used for your game and then use the same (or close enough password) then you do in your game. Or anywhere else, as too many people do. Then boom, the owner of that website decide to try a couple of those account onto a specific online game and they will find account that works. You could even setup your account on any legitimate website/service and some rogue admin download this list and decide to test some on a game. They are bound to find some that would work.

Given enough people to go through such a list and you have what one feel is a 'hack' when in reality their account was compromised by proxy. Meaning a third party abused your account via a weakness in your username/password usage, and not a direct hack anyone's system or DB. Most people won't admit to that, but the reality is too many people choose the easy way and do reuse password quite often. Each time increasing their risk.

Another thing stop using 'sex69' or other easily guess password and exposing the username or email address you use for online services.

Anyhow, good luck to anyone that had their account broken into. If you feel you haven't done anything wrong, maybe you did not, but still think about your online password strategy. Perhaps that is where the root cause is.

I write this type of software. If done correctly Trion doesn't store the credit card information in a database at all. Instead, the credit card information gathered by their system is passed to and maintained by a highly secure credit card processing company. The reoccuring payment information established by said 3rd party is only visible to Trion as an identifier, which is only valid in conjunction with Trion's credit card merchant information. This is the industry standard method, and anything less would be a shock.

We're doing stuff to get stuff so that we can do other stuff. That's how these games generally work. If the stuff you're doing isn't fun, move on. If you're not happy with that model, move on. Telling us that you don't like it doesn't make us think you're enlightened.
