While doing the Gaboro reef part of the scavenger quest the tainted jellies don't drop the tar, I have spent hours killing them and not 1 drop, and the 2 items that were needed 0/40 are now grey items and not readily available

This quest should be autocompleting. It did for me twice on Deepwood. Try going back to the Temple and talking to the guy again.
