Default Three up-to-date mage specs i like for PvP 7.25.13

    1) 61pyro/10warlock/5harb
    Soul Tree: http://www.rifthead.com/stc/zclNdxxvesfIuusksgqfkvV
Buffs: Lightning Charge, Flaring Intellect, Pyromancer's Aegis, Glyphs of Power
    Basics:
    * use Extinguish so Fireballs are instant
    * use Fireball every third attack so they will hit for double (Pyromancer's Aegis)
    * Internalize Charge to boost damage
    * use Heatwave to reset Burning Shield, Flicker, and stuns
    * cast a Fusillade and a Cinder Burst while Heatwave is active
    * Backdraft. aoe stun. great
    * pyro is fragile, so try to move back before being targeted
    Macro for Fireball:
    #show Extinguish
    suppressmacrofailures
    cast Extinguish
    cast Fireball

    2) 61chloro
Soul Tree: I suggest trying it with 11 dom for AP or 11 pyro for Flicker, but anything works
Buffs: Lifegiving Veil, Living Aegis, Living Energy, and any from the other souls you choose
    Basics:
    * To heal with Lifegiving Veil: cast Corrosive Spores as much as you can, use Ruin and Nature's Fury for damage, and fill in the blanks with Vile Spores
    * Entropic Veil to boost heals ( LGV heals occur on damage, not on cast)
    * Cleansing Rush: it is generally a good idea to use this every 10 seconds in warfronts
    * Living Shell and Natural Splendor are great.
    * use Essence Surge and Flourish often, but trust in the passive heals from Corrosive Spores and Vile Spores (especially with Entropic Veil)

    3) 48harb/28chloro/0pyro
    Soul Tree: http://www.rifthead.com/stc/zcRdNxds...vVxgubdrtdboGo
Buffs: Eldritch Armor, Reaper's Blade, Lifegiving Veil
    Macro:
    #show Ruin
    suppressmacrofailures
    cast [notactive] Charged Blade
    cast Vorpal Slash
    cast Ruin
    cast Storm's Fury
    cast Piercing Beam
    cast Storm Slash
    cast Flame Bolt
    cast Withering Vine
    cast Vengeful Shock
    cast Conditioned Response
    Basics:
    * repeatedly hit the macro button over and over to do melee dps. it helps to keep hitting it because Vengeful Shock and Conditioned Response can be used during your global cooldown
    * use Phantom Blades so your melee skills can be used at range for 15 seconds every 30 seconds
    * Planar Shield is great and has no cooldown.. try to always keep it up
    * make a second macro replacing the line "cast [notactive] Charged Blade" with "cancelbuff Charged Blade" and use this macro to build charge if you need more charge for more Planar Shield
    * use Glaring Fetters often.. both as dps and as a slow
    * movement: Phase Step, Planar Retreat, Blade Rush (also a stun)
    * when Eldritch Armor procs, cast an instant Nature's Fury, Nature's Touch, or Vile Spores
    * Ruin and Nature's Fury will hit very hard with this many points in harb
    * consider using Glaring Fetters, your stuns, your movement skills, and the chloro skills while Phantom Blades is not ready
    * this dps spec will do accidental healing worth about 1/3 of what a real healing spec would do, especially if you keep hitting the macro

    Thanks,

    lolwut?

The first spec is for dungeon/raid dps.

You sir, haven't even scratched the surface of a proper mage pvp spec, don't feed poor newbs wrong information :/

If you are into Pyromancer PvP, this spec should be ideal for both new and veteran players:

    http://rift.magelo.com/en/soultree#S90/iGlliFlkyGy/dt3o

Spell reflect to counter those countless nukers, ubersilence vs healers (so you can actually go 3v1 and win even with enemy having a healer), damage shield vs scratching rogues, extra knockback and interrupt, bit crappy longass squirrel cc, epic Harb spellpower boost and movespeed boost...ability to conjure a nice looking blade, instacast spammable if all other **** is on CD, ability to proc extra dmg.

And you would sacrifice all this UTILITY (#1 important thing in pvp) just to gain 10% more damage from a ****ing warlock? You are disgusting, because I know your type, its all about trying to get #1 on damage done and tab-targeting random tanks to nuke...

Please dont teach newbies to be as bad as you.

    "Macro for Fireball:
    #show Extinguish
    suppressmacrofailures
    cast Extinguish
    cast Fireball"

    what the f*ck?

You dont macro such things, you use almost 0 macros in pvp as a mage, unless its a harb or prepare to be bad.

I suggest 61pyro/10warlock/5harb for health. The macro just manages Extinguish for you so you don't need an extra button for it. Enjoy.

The spec you suggested with 61pyro and some points in Dom was what I was using until the recent updates that gave the pyro soul tree a boost to its range, which it did not previously have when everyone was using Dom as the secondary soul. Since the recent change, these are now all good options.

<-- been burnt by babydolle a few times.

Besides, most people will adjust these specs/macros to suit their own playstyle.

Specs are alright. Not brilliant but pretty standard.

There's nothing wrong with using extinguish and fireball in the same macro, infact it's only bad players who say not to imo.

"hard cast into extinguish" er.. why, you'll only be hardcasting at the end of the chain and it's better to have that cast actually go off successfully without being silenced/interrupted, plus you build charge quicker for finishers like fulminate etc.

What's a good 3rd soul after 61pyro/dom with reflective command if I don't have access to harb?

Probably archon: damage, flowing sand, and searing vitality.
