Trophy Fish are artifacts and are not consider fish. So the lure that only catch common and rare fish will never catch a Trophy fish. I think this is bad and lazy game design.
Like wishing for more wishes, you can use the rare fish lure to catch the rare fish that make the rare lures. You usually catch about twice as many of those rare fish as you spend on making the lures to catch them. You just go back in forth between zone, catch all crabs then catching all moonhorses, then just catch an even amount of each to create your large batch of rare fish lures.
This is especially helpful in making a large batch of magnetic timed lures to use for long fishing sessions required to complete all the fishing artifacts sets for the achievements.

Look for my update tomorrow for more info, but there will now be a timed lure specifically for trophy fish.

Another fishing question about Lake of Solace. This seems like a good place to fish trophy fish from since there more to get and thus there should be less overlap.
However, after fishing there for over 30 minutes, using a timed metal lure the whole time. I never saw one trophy. Is this bad luck or does it not have any trophy fish in its drop table?
Unknown for sure, but that is about my finding too. LoS drop no trophies or other zone unique fishign artifacts.
Interestingly, while fishing in the Lake of Solace, I fished up a Dragonslayer Treasure Chest. The same chests that can be fished up in Shimmersand. It had a Snapper Jerky recipe in it. So technically you could add the Lake of Solace as a source of high level survival recipes.

Has anyone actually found one of these in game or just on the test server?
I asked in 50 chat, no one had one and people said they don't exist!
