    Default [3.5] Paragon/Paladin - An open world self-sustaining spec

This is a spec intended for solo content with mostly single target encounters. It also does well in solo queuing PvP and in overgeared tanking NTEs and zone events. In addition, it's quite a strong dueling spec, if you're a weird masochist that's into that kind of thing. Please do not use this in raids or other challenging group content for pure DPS purposes.

This spec focuses on the synergy between Deliberate Strikes, Turn the Blade, and off GCD reactive abilities such as Backhand and Retaliation. The damage of Deliberate Strikes is not decreased by Turn the Blade, and so any build with it will deal far more damage with it than a 1.5 GCD build. Backhand and Retaliation also occasionally build stacks of building rage, dealing even more damage. However, there is a 1 second internal cooldown on building rage stacks, so although they will help get you more stacks than normal, they will not help as much as in a 1.5 second GCD spec.

    TL;DR:
    Spoiler!

    The build:

    43 Paragon 21 Paladin 12 Warlord

Switch points into Into the Breach or Light's Hammer as needed. Take out Grasping the Horizon if you can stay in melee, Face Slam if you don't need an interrupt or Wrist Strike if you're facing targets that can't be debilitated. The key abilities and points are Unleashed (41 Paragon), Touch of Life (21 Paladin, Battle Field Medic (12 Warlord), and Combat Veteran/Backhand (11 Warlord).

    Pros:
    • Decent sustained DPS - especially when you can block
    • Extremely high self sustain - two self-healing buffs, an oGCD heal, a ST heal and Touch of Life (oGCD 100% self heal)
    • High mitigation and HP
    • Utility/CC - stuns/debilitates, a snare, a pull, an interrupt, Grasping the Horizon etc

    Cons:
    • Lower DPS than 61 Paragon
    • Relatively slow
    • No AOE

    Buffs:

    Turn the Blade
    Shield of the Hero
    Way of the Mountain
    Way of the Sun
    Recovery Posture
    Focus of the Body

Switch Way of the Sun for Way of the River if you have sufficient healing.

    Macros and Bar:

    ST Builder macro:

    #show Rising Waterfall
    cast Retaliation
    cast Backhand
    cast Final Blessing
    cast Rising Waterfall
    cast Death Touch
    cast Swift Strike
    cast Pacifying Strike
    cast @self Power Manipulation

    Shifting Blades macro:

    #show Shifting Blades
    cast Shifting Blades
    cast Tranquility

    Self healing macro:

    #show Battlefield Medic
    cast Battlefield Medic
    cast @self Light's Balm

Other abilities to have on your bar:

    Reaping Harvest
    Flurry
    Sweeping Strike

    Utility/CC:

Wrist Strike (5 second debilitate, 30 second CD)
Predictable Movements (4 second stun, 30 second CD)

Eye of the Storm (10 second snare, 10 second CD, off GCD)
    Sergeant's Order (20 m pull/taunt, 8 second CD, off GCD)
Face Slam (20 m interrupt, 8 second CD)
Thread the Trees (20 m charge, 15 second CD)

Interfere (ST taunt, 8 second CD)
Judgement (AOE taunt, 8 second CD)

    Gameplay:

This is a versatile build that can be used to tank content you're over-geared for, melee in PvP when healing is weak, soloing, or doing open world content. In essence, any situation where support from the rest of your group is weak or non-existent.

Use the builder macro to get to three attack points (two GCDs/uses most of the time), and then use your Reaping Harvest finisher. Use the Shifting Blades macro twice (Shifting Blades is off GCD, so this will take only one GCD) when it's off cooldown as a finisher. Use Grasping the Horizon or a charge to handle disconnects. This is an extremely simple, almost brain dead rotation - which is a great benefit in PvP or when tanking. This will also let you get a feel for 61 Paragon, if you haven't yet mastered the spec. Essentially, if you have the builder macro as 1, Reaping Harvest as 2 and the Shifting Blades macro as 3:

    1 - 1 - 3 (3 again, in the same GCD)
    1 - 1 - 2
    1 - 1 - 2
    1 - 1 - 2
    1 - 1 - 2

    Repeat

Builder - Follow Up - Finisher

Use flurry for 1 second (2 ticks) instead of a builder macro use if you want to get a little more DPS and practice for Paragon. You can also use it for disconnects.

Use the self healing macro to top yourself off. I personally keep Light's Balm and Battlefield Medic on separate buttons, but having them macro'd can save a button. They're reasonably strong due to your very high AP. Watch your energy if you're using Battlefield Medic.

In PvP and duels, use your charge to close, and then use your DPS rotation. Use your self heals to top off, and save Touch of Life for emergency healing. Use your vast amount of CC and utility liberally, ideally to stop your opponent's burst (such as Empyrean Ascension or Alacrity). Your CC and self healing, combined with Bloodlust, should ensure that you almost never die. Although this spec won't do as much as 61 Paragon, the two reactive abilities allow it to deal more sustained damage than one may suspect from a tanky hybrid.

When tanking, use Sweeping Strike to maintain AOE aggro. Use your two ST taunts and AOE taunt to grab aggro back if you lose it, and your normal single target rotation to DPS. I would only recommend using this to tank zone events, as 61 VK 15 Warlord in DPS gear has far more mitigation and shielding (but not as much healing), and will not have threat issues.

Sweeping strike is used for AOE threat if you're using this to tank open world or NTEs. It doesn't deal very much DPS, but it should let you keep threat on groups of mobs. You have to be overgeared if you want to be able to tank with this build though. You don't have much AOE threat (although you have multiple taunts) and you don't have any shielding CDs.

Shield of Will can be nice. Swap out Wrist Strike for it. You can also swap Wrist Strike for Fleet of Foot if you like that. I personally don't use Shield of Will because the self healing is so strong already. Also, it's very small in PvP, and I like additional CC instead.

In T3 armor/T2 accessories/weapon and a T1 trinket, I can do ~60-65k in experts while tanking with this build. This is mainly due to the two procs. If you can't block, it'll do less.

    Rotation:
    1-1-3
    1-1-2 (*4)
Think you swtiched "2" and "3" in the rotation?

I don't tend to like ST solo specs, but I have to say that this one can survive quite well grinding down 3-4 mob groups one at a time while self-healing, interrupting &c. That's w/ a new 65 in mostly green gear. And yeah, it's dead simple, great for harvesting and other mindless stuff.

When tanking, would you add "aggressive block" to the spam?

    Good work!

Yupe, the TL;DR was just added because a friend said

    'TOO COMPLEX'

    The original had: '
if you have the builder macro as 1, Reaping Harvest as 2 and the Shifting Blades macro as 3'

    Will fix.
