    Default 2.5 Rogue Specs Compendium

    Update: 02/27/14 added solo/pvp/fun specs

    Prelude:

I am going to summarize all specs we have right now for a better overview no matter if you are a new player or a rift veteran. I copying some formats here.Credits to Solaxys.

Many good theorycrafters and raiders have rewritten their guide so this compendium is the fastest way to access and comparing them.

    DPS Specs Melee:

    1. 61 Assassin
Link: Liths Assassin Guide from 2.1
Bosses: Salvarola, Breaker X-1, Kyzzix, Crucia etc
Variance: MM/NB for maximal ap contribution or RNG/MM for CP heavy gear
Playstyle: Keeping up Dots, positional requirements, CD management( medium difficulty)
Dps Rank: This is our highest ST DPS spec.
    1. Managing Dots and Buffuptime trough Tod/Slipaway is the way to go here. Otherwise its just spamming and finishing.
    2. Spec provides less utility. It only has a stun and 2 confuses that you can rarely use for add management.
    3. Positional requirements lessens the DPS and the lack of DC possibilties make this spec even worse.
    4. Its also very horrible at target switching but you can Impale as many targets as you can.
5.Timing poison malice with raidcooldowns is essential for this spec and if you don't have LE/fervor you will energy starve fast.
6.Last changes conclude in cloak and dagger lasting 5 more seconds so you can now do less burst but more sustained dmg if youd like by refreshing jagged on 1 sec left of C&D.

    2. 61 Bladedancer
    Link: Muspel's Comprehensive Guide
Bosses shines on: Volan, Mordan & Viktus, Proteus, Inyr'kta, Matriarch, Regulos etc.
    Variance: SIN/NB for weapon enchants
Playstyle: Complex mainhand/offhand rotation, almost to no macros at all, Buff management (heavy, challenging and rewarding)
DPS rank: This is medicore ST DPS but insane AOE burst capability.
    1. HB and DS are your most powerful AE skills that can even outperform Sab's AE during their duration.
    2. Managing your dances makes this spec so versatile in any circumstances whether its AE or ST. You need to know the fight and then you are able to suite the order to the mechanics of the boss.
    3. You also bring a crit debuff into the raid when not having an assasin for some reason.
    4. Hard-hitter build thats nearly allows no playstyle mistakes. Also non-existing DC capabilitys.

    3. 61 Nightblade
    Link: Gery's Nightblade Guide
    Bosses shines on: Kaliban, Proteus
Variance: RS/MM for maximal AP and hp, RNG/SIN for CP heavy gear
Playstyle: Just spam and finish, CD management, nothing special here(easy but effective)
DPS rank: This is mostly our second highest DPS spec with medicore AOE.
    1. Relies heavily on LF and ToD for either ST or AOE.
    2. Bad at target switching, when LF is on CD.
    3. Incredible Burst in 6 seconds. Merely too short in my opinion.
    4. When LF/ToD and DD is on CD, it feels like it hits like a wet noddle. But the main reason you play this is because for a melee spec it has awesome DC capabilities from 20m.
    5. You pretty much have no utility but an incredible selfheal and the highest hp a dps can have.

    4. NB/SIN
    Link: Gery's NB/SIN feat. Rob
Bosses shines on: Salvarola, Goloch, Crucia. Ultane, Kyzzix
Variance: with or without enduring brew
Playstyle: similar to SIN, Managing dots, CD's, energy and buffs (heavy due to priorties)
DPS rank: on par with 61 sin, but shines sub 30%
    1. The reason why it works is the ToD, Dark Malady combo together with Dusk to Dawn.
    2. Without LE/fervor ,this spec sucks so bad
    3. This specs awesomeness lies in the high sustained dmg and the DC capability.
    4. You bring no utility, but at least you have lethal poison.

    DPS Specs Range:

    1. 61 Ranger
    Link: Gery's Ranger Guide
Bosses shines on: Kaliban, Salvarola, Eggtenders
Variance: NB for dps or RS for hp
Playstyle: Keep up Dots/Debuffs/Buffs, Spam and finish (easy playsyle)
DPS rank: This is your highest range ST Spec on a straight burn with a few to no target switches.
    1. Long rampup time, bad at target switches, pet reliant, can die to very less mechanics, nothing further to say here.
2: Utility is bad. Only one interupt that consumes CP.

    2. 61 Marksmen
    Link: Muspel's comprehensive MM Guide
Bosses shines on: every boss you have to purge
Variance:RNG/NB for best target switching capabilities
Playstyle: maximal efficency from CD's and CP usage, energy management (medicore difficulty)
Dps rank: Probably the worst range DPS of all callings.
1.Peolple think that MM is just spamming two macros but it isnt.
    2. Utility ís great. High mobility, an interupt, a purge, a root, a knockback..lots of tools.
    3. Spec is all about getting as many ES as possible. AE is also more than ok if you can line up the mobs.

    3. 54 Saboteur
    Link: Nynja's Saboteur Guide
    Bosses shines on: Proteus, Twins(FT)
Variance: Sin for lethal, BD for BT, NB for max dps
Playstyle:Refreshing Dots and spam Bombs (Medicore playstyle)
DPS Rank: Top AOE DPS spec if targets are together.ST is almost as good as MM.
    1. Pretty straight forward but better than any 1-button spam build
    2. ST is okish

    4. Tac/MM
    Link: TekBlk's new Tacman
Bosses shines on: FT twins, Matriarch, Ultane
Variance: 44/32 when mobs are together, 37tac/35MM/4NB for max torrent dmg
Playstyle: Depends on the variance, mostly torrent rotation and Engine switch (medicore playstyle)
DPS Rank: This is our Top AOE Spec when mobs aren't together most of the time.
    1. ST is not worth mentioning, except for sub 30%
    2. Raidbuff like WG, minor heals for the raid included
    3. This spec became pretty useless in the last weeks, but i would not completely throw it away

    Support Specs:

    1. 61 Bard (the only one!)
Link: Grinnz Barding in Storm Legion
    Bosses shines on: Every one
Variance: none (except youd like to bring an interrupt or lethal(in 10man))
Playstyle: Buffing the group, DPS or Heal, you can switch between that depending on the situation infight
Support Rank: BEST AND ONLY SUPPORT SPEC that is worth mentioning
    1. Use Harmonic Distortion for spotheals.
    2. OoP/VoJ too OP to let them out
3 with MO you can smart heal 5 ppl up in no-time

    Tank Specs:

    1. 61 Riftstalker
Link: Muspel's Riftstalker Tanking in Storm Legion
Bosses shines on: Thrax, Inyr'kta , Mordan & Viktus
Variance: Bard/RNG for max HP, BD for double interrupt, Tac for gimmick
Playstyle: Keep up buffs/debuffs, know when to use your CD's, shift when it makes sense (medicore playstyle)
Tank Rank: Best Tank when its about CD's, a rogue tank when played right will be the last man standing
    1. You have mobility and you got to use it, a rogue tank can control the whole battlefield in no time.
    2. Its not a cleric tank, you got to be next to a mob to tank it
    3. I saw this so i mention it again: cadence DOES NOT has a hidden aggro modifier

    Solo and PVP specs:

    BD/RS Bladestalker
    Link: Muspel's Bladedancer Solo Guide
Situations shines on: AOE farming, chronicals, events
    Variance: none
Playstyle: Mostly like Bladedancer but more situational use of dances, ports, the more you pull the better this spec is
Tank Rank: you can tank with this spec and do decent dps if you are overgeared
    1. This spec is almost unkillable.
    2. Very high Aoe DPS and decent ST dps
    3. Most versatile solo spec available

    NB/RS Nightstalker
    Link: Grandpa's NB leveling/Solo Spec
    Situations shines on: questing, chronicals,leveling
    Variance: none
Playstyle: Mostly like 61 NB, but focused on ST
    1. This is the best Solo Spec for everyday's gaming with the easiest playstyle.(spam and finish)
    2. If you arent pulling too much you can kill the mobs one by one with almost no downtime.
    3. supbar utility, but tanky

    SIN/RS Sinstalker
Link: Solo Stalker/ no SL soul required
    Situations shines on: questing, chronicals,events
    Variance: none
Playstyle: The typical stealthy character lets you bypass many trashmobs. Like 61 SIN.
    1. This spec is very tanky and has good ST DPS.
    2. You can easily approach every boss in chronicles through stealth.
    3. You are able to tank in 5mans doing quests or similar stuff.

Disclaimer: Most of the best PVP specs for rogues in Rift are variances of the most common PVE Specs, like Assassin, MM and NB for instance. There are however completely different specs available but i dont know how viable they are because in a 5 VS 5 you won't ever see them and are only useful in random warfronts if you queue solo or duo.

    61 Marksman
Link: For the basics read Muspels MM Guide for PVE
Situations shines on: 5vs5, solo queue
Subsouls: PVE variance for max DPS, for more survivability take 5 RS/10 NB or 10 RS/5NB( AP scales with vengeance, so its mandatory to always take those modfiers)
Playstyle: Just like in PVE, but forget about decoy and take barbed shot instead.
PVP Rank: Best sustained DPS with burst capabilities.
    1. Timing Strafe+Bulls eye+DES+Empowered is mostly a kill if timed right.
    2. Use Eridicate as often as you can, mostly on high value targets.
    3. When mastered hardly no-one will ever kill you if you stay in the 31-35 m range to your target.
    4. Kiting is essential and should be practised alot. Get used to shadow shift, retreat and your best CC static shot.
    5. Vampire Mun is crap. Use Static and silver.
    6. Crossfire will unstealth enemy players.

    61 Nightblade
Link: Read Gery's guide for the basics, although many things are neglectable
Situations shines on: duo queue, solo queue
Subsouls: PVE variance for max DPS, its already the best combination IMO
Playstyle: Just like in PVE, but you can simplify many things with macros.
PVP Rank: Best burst and very annoying for rookish healers.
    1. preload 5 stacks of fiery spike (or 3 with dark malady) DD+SOD>then LF+ToD> anyone without a pocket heal will die
    2. After the burn you mostly hit like a wet noodle, so go assist other dps.
    3. You can use dark containment as an interrupt.
    4. Don't use TT while you burn.
    5. Always engage new targets with fiery spike.
    6. You have 2 CC breaks. Use them wisely.
7.You can drain ~50% mana of a target with living flame+ touch of darkness.
    8. Switch to fell blades, when enganging healers. otherwise always SB+HB.
    9. Put dusk to dawn and dusk strike into your spam macro. you won't have energy issues in PVP.
    10. Keep up State of Sloath, even on opener
    61 Assassin
Link: Read Orangu's Guide for the basics
Situations shines on: point control, harassment, 5vs5, open pvp, ganking -.-
Subsouls: PVE variance for max DPS, its already the best combination IMO, for more survivability check the next spec
Playstyle: Just like in PVE, but you can simplify many things with macros.
PVP Rank: High sustained ST and very annoying for all kind healers.
    1. Poison Malice is the main aspect in your dmg output and if you want to kill someone dont use it in a macro.
    2. You can break this spec down to one button spam but it will be more rewarding, when played with a few more buttons.
3.Always watch out for purges, without your enchants you are worthless meat.
    4. Don't use Slip away to gank one more player, use it to switch your pressure to another high value target/assist other DPS.
    5. Use your stun, when target is low health. Enfeebling poison and virulent poison aren't good.
    6. Jagged Strike will be better than Assassinate in 99 of 100 cases.
    7. This spec is pretty viable with a pocket healer, because you are very squishy. If you don't have one, check the next spec.

    54/22 Sinstalker
Link: I did not find an actual guide, but i know for sure that this is the allrounder spec for PVP and its still viable
    51/25 Sinstalker
51/25 Variance for 15% more crit and another port/CC break
Situations shines on: point control, harassment, 5vs5, open pvp, ganking -.-
Subsouls: RS for more Endurance, Survivability, dmg decreased by a small amount
Playstyle: If you know how to play 61 Sin, its pretty straight forward.
PVP Rank: All the benefits of Sin together with tankyness makes it the perfect allrounder.
    1. There isn't much to say about this spec, just that i would prefer it in random pugs and open world over any other pvp spec.
    2. With Top End PVP gear the dmg is great and you have like 40k hp xD
    3. I guess its THE 1vs1 Spec too if you prefer it.

    FUN-Specs:

    58/14/4 Tactician Heals
Link: OMG THIS SPEC IS SO FUNNY, YOU HAVE TO TRY IT IN PVP AND PVE
Situations shines on: experts dungeons, random warfronts (Black Garden etc)
Subsouls: RS for more Endurance, Bard for even more Endu and Healling
Playstyle: One button Spam and lots of utility
FUN Rank: I had the most fun of my life with this spec in pvp and pve^^
    1. Normally i should write a guide for this spec, because it has so many aspects that have to be mentionend, but i will eventually do that later.
    2. This spec can solo heal expert dungeons if the group is well geared and people know what they are doing. But maybe the mage/cleric healer will thank you after the run that he was able to do dps instead.
    3. You just throw out all healing skills you have on CD and in between you spam restorative bolt on the tank or as a spot heal for other players.
    4. Ofc you have no cleanse or a combatrezz but in nearly every situation you can outheal the debuff/dot anyway and other ppl will only die when its their fault(e.g. standing too long in GTAE etc)
    5. If you are in a random warfront and there is one to no healer in your team, switch to this spec. You will bring enough heal for the rest for maybe turn a lose into a win.
    6. You have total point control on maps like Black Garden(the fang version) because your necrotic core will interrupt anyone not smart enough, trying to take the items or points.
    7. Most ppl will ignore you because they think you arent worth it.
    8. You can outheal any average dps in small groups or at least distract him long enough.
    9. You bring a few support skills for your group like power core etc.
    10. You are able to kill ppl when they are on low health (necrotic bolt) just for the lulz.
    11. i do know most of the AE heals are fluff heals but in PVP it can turn the tide and you will be mostly topping the healing done charts in a warfront.
    12. Any feedback appreciated. :P

I am going to keep this thread updated and add further specs in the future..cya

    Sincerely yours,
    Nynja

You're missing Riftstalker. (Also, it's spelled "Assassin", not "Assasin").

Agree with each and every assessment of the souls combinations and output, well done.

Great job! Would like to see a PvP spec compendium, although it would mean minor changes.

I have question in regards to NB specs. 61 NB shines on Kaliban and Proteus. What is the difference to Ranger on Kaliban and Sab on Proteus? NB/Sin - Salvarola, Goloch, Crucia. Ultane, Kyzzix. Is this the best choice or other specs will perform similar , better or slighly worse. One of my friends playing NB said it has energy problems.

For Kaliban the dmg phase is 9 seconds more or less and thats why NB is taking the most advantage of his 6s LF/ToD/DD burn, and if you are able to melee its more dmg than Ranger..

For Proteus the burn of NB is too short....thats why saboteur is able to take full advantage of the 20 sec with his 2 dots and carpet bombing but its tricky to do that in every phase...

sab wont do more dmg than NB in this phase but the AOE is more important in between the dmg phases..

Not that I have any doubts or am I positioning myself for a debate but, why is 61 bard considered "the one and only"?

Has something changed to surpass bard/tact?
