    Kerghan’s Guide to 54 Harb (3.3)

Welcome to my guide on the new Harbinger!

54 harb is now our new top dps spec after the changes that came in with 3.3. It is a sustained dps class with no burst that excels over long fights. In terms of difficulty, it is a step down from stormbinger but still has a reasonable amount of charge management and requires an awareness of your own abilities’ cooldowns to maximise it’s dps.

    Let’s get cracking!

    Video Guide: Link!

For the utility keybinds, please take some time to read what they do, I will probably not mention them again in this guide but they have are important to have on your bar and can be very useful in certain fights.

    L9iKDA5GmBBMSQzRLYygmULRVu8dLoJWdxXXwTYjbmOeXwJljH/93/BeR1W3V

These are in a mess so move them around and scale them to fit your preference.

    Rotation:

The rotation in essence is very simple. You want to maintain Piercing Beam, Blazing Light and 3 stacks of Rending Slash up at all times while keeping your high damaging abilities such as Vorpal Slash, Storm’s Fury, Hailstorm and Tempest Winds on cooldown.

To achieve this you can use the following:
    1. Keep up Piercing Beam, refreshing it after it falls off and before you cast any more slashing attacks

    2. Keep Blazing Light up, this should only need to be cast once at the start of the fight and should be maintained by refreshing with the use of Lucent Slash. You want to cast Lucent Slash when Blazing Light has between 1-2 seconds left on it’s duration to refresh. Remember Lucent Slash has a very large animation and the damage and reapplication of Blazing Light occurs at the end of the animation.

    3. Maintain 3 stacks of Rending Slash. This is only important at the start, where I personally get 3 stacks up asap before casting any other spells (I do apply Piercing beforehand). Otherwise, Rending Slash should be maintained via your spam macro and doesn’t really need to be managed.

    4. Use your Spam macro when you do not have a proc (an Eldritch Gift reactive) or Tempest Winds available.

    5. When a proc becomes a available, consume it by using your proc macro. This will only ever be one GCD and will be a 0.5 sec gcd.

    6. For Tempest Winds, if you are not looking to min/max, simply use this on cooldown but making sure you at least have more than 4 seconds left on Blazing Light (allowing yourself enough time to refresh Blazing Light with a Lucent Slash straight after).

    7. If you are looking to min/max, you want to make sure that casting Tempest Winds does not delay any of your Vorpal Slashes or Hailstorms. I.e. if your Vorpal Slash or Hailstorm are coming off CD within 3 seconds, save Tempest Winds until after they are back on cooldown. I personally also make sure that Tempest Winds does not delay my Storm’s Fury but this is debatable if it is a gain or not.

    8. Maintain your stacks of Conductive Medium. To do this, you will need to toggle Charged Blade on and off to refresh the stacks. This only needs to be done frequently at the start of fights when you have a large amount of excess charge. However, you should be tracking this at all times hence why it is included in the Kalert set.

    Priority List

For those who are looking to min/max, a priority list can be much more helpful than a descriptive rotation, so here it is! This is based off of damage per cast time on each ability: (Highest first, lowest last)

    Hailstorm (via Eldritch Gift)
    \/
Piercing Beam (when Piercing Beam is not on the target)
    \/
    Vorpal Slash
    \/
    Vile Spores (via Eldritch Gift)
    \/
    Tempest Winds
    \/
    Storm’s Fury
    \/
    Blazing Light
    \/
Rending Slash (with Charged Blade active)
    \/
    Living Storm
    \/
    Withering Vine
    \/
    Rending Slash (without Charged Blade)

Obviously, you do not have a huge amount of control over the refreshing of Blazing Light, I placed it in the priority for in case you let it fall off and want to know when you should be reapplying it.

For Vile Spores, the entire damage of it including the DoT portion is actually higher damage per cast time than Vorpal Slash. However, with the lack of proc spells, you need the charge from Viles Spores and will likely be casting it more than once every 6 seconds and therefore clipping the DoT frequently. When the DoT is clipped, the damage per cast time is reduced and will therefore do less than Vorpal.

I really advise that you keep track on the cooldowns on high priority abilities as it can make a big difference on certain fights if you know when your big hitters are coming and being able to delay them or plan for them.

    Charge Management

This is a charge drained spec. What I mean by this is that if you were to do the rotation without taking any steps to manage your charge, you will run out of charge and your dps will be largely affected.

So, to ensure we never run out of charge we want to make sure every time we drop below 40 charge that we start to use the Charge Gain macro to maintain it above that level. Despite us starting to use this macro, we do not want to delay the use of our hard hitting abilities so do not prioritise the charge gain macro over Vorpal Slash, Storm’s Fury, Hailstorm and Tempest Winds. Use the macro when all these are on cooldown and keep using it until you are above 40-50 charge at which point you should revert to using your spam macro.

Withering Vine and Living Storm are a gain in dps if you use them in the place of the Charge Gain macro when you have just consumed a proc (i.e during the internal cooldown of EG which is 3 seconds after you gain a proc). If you are unsure what this means, you are better off not using these at all as it is a very small gain and if used incorrectly can cause a loss in dps. Living Storm does slightly more dps than Withering so it takes priority unless you are required to contribute to the HPS where Withering Vine should be used first. It is important to note that these 2 abilities will have a 1.5 sec GCD so they will feel very clunky to use.

    Cleaving/AoE

This spec has the ability to cleave very well while still maintaining good ST dps. It might not be able to beat out 61NB or Reaver but it still does very well.

When you are required to cleave, take the following steps:
    1. The first thing you want to do is swap to the Luminous Weapon buff. This is an off global cooldown ability so you do not lose any dps by doing this mid fight.

    2. Cast Living Storm on your main target. Maintain this for the duration that you have adds to cleave.

    3. Make sure Blazing Light is up on your main target (should be up regardless).

    4. Use Lucent Slash to spread Blazing Light to the adds you are cleaving.

    5. For procs, you want to use Hailstorm obviously, Vile Spores when the DoT is not up on your target and Forked Lightning for the rest. If you have 4 or more targets, only use Hailstorm and Forked Lightning.

    6. If you are cleaving off of a boss, you should still use Vorpal Slash, Storm’s Fury and Tempest Winds to maintain your ST dps. You must keep track of Rending Slash at this point and refresh it manually as you will not be using your spam macro when cleaving.

    7. If you are just trying to do maximum aoe dps, Lucent Slash spam like crazy but still use the Charge Gain macro to keep your charge at a reasonable level.

    8. Don’t forget to switch back to Reaper’s Blade once you have finished cleaving!

    Blademark

This ability is so strong it deserves it’s own section. It is pretty simple when you should use it. If you have two targets which both need to damaged, you use it! Make sure before you use it that you have all your debuffs up on your main target first (Rending, Piercing etc) then use Blademark on the second target and proceed to go HAM on the first target. This can be slightly annoying as it can mean you have to switch targets manually. A good way to make this much easier is to use the Blademark macro in this guide and to get your raid leader or whoever marks in your raid to mark the add that you want to Blademark. Then you want to use the following macro:

    focus @mark 1

Then all you have to do is use this macro when the target you want to blademark has been marked followed by the Blademark macro and you will never have to target switch. Of course, if your raid leader marks the target with a different mark to 1 then you have to find what number that mark is and change the macro accordingly. Or, of course, you can just moan at him until he either changes the mark to 1 or kicks you from the raid, either way, you won’t have to change your macro.

    Healing

Yeah, you read that right, healing. With 8 Chloro in this spec, you have the choice to turn on Lifegiving Veil. This will allow for you to do a large amount of passive healing without making any change to your rotation. The downside to this is that if you have a chloro in the raid, you cannot receive any healing from his veils so you need to do this with caution. Most of the time, your self healing will be enough however, you can either turn it off or ask the Puri to chuck you a shield if you are in danger of dying.

Withering Vine can be used in the normal rotation but if you feel that there is constant damage that you could be helping with, try to keep Withering Vine up 100% of the time. If you do not have a Chloro in the raid, you can also use Radiant Spores and change your Level 61 mastery to Bulwark of Souls which will help you keep it up without wasting too many GCDs on it.

If you really want to go HAM on healing, you can also change your Synergy Crystal to the AoE healing crystal. You will take a hit on your dps doing this however.

    Gameplay

Here are some videos of the spec being played by myself:

Hope you all find this guide useful. If you think there is something I have made a mistake with, please leave a comment below and I will check it.

You can dumb this spec down even more by putting the proc macro above the spam macro and jump/twitch left and right the entire time, just as if you were playing necro.

EDIT: Do note this removes some potential optimizations, but hey. If you wanted easy, you wouldn't merge the macros.

    tl;dr: press 1, then press 2

    Rotation might as well be:

Esc -> Log Out -> Create -> [choose Warrior]

Curious if 61 Harb will outparse 54 on Sicaron with EA on every 3-4 contracts. We'll find out this reset

Its a great guide, but I think you're being a bit unfair on 61 Harb. On PTS 10 man it was roughly the same as 54 so I think in a 20 man setting it should pull ahead.

If they get the +100 charge working too then I really can't see 54 keeping up, especially on shorter duration fights where you can frontload a lot of the DPS.

    A question for OP.

Thanks for guide, Wondering why Icicle isn't in Proc macro ?

Also, can we just remove storm slash completely and put Thundershock/Some other ranged Spell

Icicle doesn't do enough damage to justify the charge cost, especially as the spec is already charge starved as it is.

The reason Storm Slash is in the macro is because it fires when you are turned away, however I have a suspicion that Rending Slash fires backwards too, if that is the case then it can be removed as it is useless.

I would be interested to see comparisons once it is tested on Live. Good fights to see a comparison would be Murdantix, Sicaron and Jinoscoth as these are pretty much dummy fights. From the the testing I did, 54 Harb was always ahead but I would be happy to be proved wrong.
