Default Another New to PvP post

    Ok assume the following:

    1. Lvl 65 mage, leveled many many months ago solely on PvE
    2. Came back to game recently after a long break
    3. Only tried PvP this week, and feel completely useless in the WFs
    3. Have no clue what to do
    4. Have spent quite some time on the forums but cannot find a good starting spot

Just looking for a decent site(s) to explain:
    1. PvP specs for mage
    2. How to gear up, most of my gear is a mix of blues and purples from Intrepid adventures (Profound, Ascendency and Marvelous thought) and I have a bunch of the Dreambreaker pieces form boxes, yet until I get enough to upgrade other gear is better. Should I even bother to try and save up to upgrade?
    3. Do weapons drop from boxes?
    4. A brief description of the mechanics of each of the Warfront instances
5 and any other tips that might have been gathered together on a guide or fan site?

With my thanks in advance, feel free to flame if that's your thing, I'll just ignore it.

You can hit me up in game with questions. The pvp mage specs are simplified: pyromancer, chloromancer, dominator, harbinger and warlock. Other specs can be played but these are the staples.

while I don't play a mage, if you are speccing just for pvp, I would suggest every single build you put together pick up living storm in one of the secondary souls.
if you do this and are on the opposite team from me, I will hate you. which is a good thing. ;)

weapons don't drop from WF boxes. best "starting" weapon you can get comes from completing the nightmare saga quest chain.
Planetouched Wilds rare elite mobs drop purple 150 hit gear and should be solo-able.

you wont be very effective in pvp until you have decent gear.
runes/dream orbs are important, use cheap ones on lesser gear.
consumables are important, particularly recon vials.
    Harb is OP.

What souls are you familiar with through PvE?

Focus on saving up Favour Infused Accelerators and Abyssal Crusader Accelerators to upgrade gear that can hold a good rune as well as a dream orb.

Until then buy cheap runes and place them in as many pieces of gear as you can.

    3. Do weapons drop from boxes?
No. If you have a decent amount of FoH saved up, use it to buy the T2 weapons from the shop.

    4. A brief description of the mechanics of each of the Warfront instances
Would be nice if such a guide existed. I'm fairly sure it doesn't.

Use recon vials. Always. Knowing where the enemy is before they are wiothin line of sight is an enormous advantage, especially if they are not using the vials themselves.

That second one is fantastic. It should be stickied at the top of the PvP Guides forum.

Edit: And maybe the post and comment count on the PvP Guides forum should show something more than " - ". More people might actually check it out if it doesn't look empty.

I want to thank everyone for your responses.

Have been trying to complete quests suggested to get the gear.

One other question at this moment. I notice when on the losing side some players drop, is there a penalty for losing that makes it worthwhile to drop when there is only a minute or two left?

    no.

other than the ignominy of having your name appear on Techfall's inevitable scoreboard screenshot if its one of the 50.1% of matches where he's on the winning team.
