    Default GCD mechanics

    Say you have a 1.5 second global cool down. If you cast an instant spell you must wait 1.5 secs before casting anything. but if you cast a 1 sec cast time ability will it still trigger the 1.5 sec gcd? will you have to wait for .5 secs or do cast time abilities get around this?

    Then what is even the point of reducing a spell below 1.5 secs? doesn't this make some talents meaningless?

    there are instant abilities. i don't recall any 1 sec cast time abilities in 1.5 gcd souls.

    It has a lot to do with mobility and avoiding interrupts.

    mostly I'm thinking of oracle that has an Emblem that reduces the cast time on your abilities by .5 secs, when there are no .5 sec abilities... I don't even get the point. maybe you don't have to stand still quite as long but frankly if .5 secs is making the difference there I'm pretty sure you're doing it wrong.

    um... if you cant make a difference of .5 of a sec count, you are doing it wrong...

    Insta casts have No - Global cooldown, unless it states it(Like a 8/15/20sec. cooldown). I use about 2-3 Insta casts that doesn't restrict Me via GCD and I'm able to cast away.

    You should test your primary abilities on a practice dummy, check the timings, cooldowns(GCD etc.), understand what fits well with what. It'll also help you to create, clean, and smooth out all your macros.

    "Insta-Casts" work on the GCD. cannot be interrupted.
    Casted (eg; 1.5 sec cast) work on the GCD, but start the GCD at the start of the cast, so often meet or overshoot the GCD, allowing another ability to be used immediately. often can be interrupted mid cast.
    Channeled abilities (eg: 3 second channel) work on the GCD but usually overshoot it. often can be interrupted mid cast.
    OGCD (Off Global CoolDown) abilities are not limited by the GCD. can be used between regular GCD abilities. cannot be interrupted.

    I play a ranged spec (warrior Tempagon) and i often fit multiple OGCD buffs between GCD abilities.
    that .5 of a sec, i can fit a Shifting Blades in there... or a Focus Fire.

    If you spec properly oracle has a 1s gcd and that emblem reduces casts by 1.5s(makes them instant)

    Casting faster than the gcd is mostly a mobility thing though.
