Default 10% damage or 10% spellpower for dps build?

I know that 1 sp = 0.2 dps. Does 1 damage = 1 dps for instant cast atttacks?

Would be best to describe a little more in detail what spec you have in mind for a better answer.

Mage pure dps specs in general. Direct damage. No dots.

In a 1:1 ratio, spellpower usually wins just because soul tree boosts are additive and spellpower bonuses get multiplied by all your other stuff.

If the 10% damage is a buff or debuff applied to your character/mob and NOT a passive from the tree, it wins out since it is multiplicative.

You could spec one way, note the damage and reset; than spec the other way and compare the numbers.

So if we were to take the new storm caller tree for example, high voltage would be additive, but conductive medium and voltaic strength would be multiplicative?

    Correct

I had conductive medium in mind when I wrote the explanation

Excellent. Thanks for the information. I'm curious if the 61 arbiter buff is multiplicative, because it's a buff, or additive because it is a non - combat buff.

Buffs, regardless of duration, are the same stacking category, and multiply with debuffs and soul gifts.

For reference, the categories of damage bonuses(additive within category, multiply wih each other category) are passives(gifts, other permanent soul tree bonuses), buffs(anything that shows up on your characters buff bar), debuffs(applied to enemies, this is why wild growth is so good, this category has relatively small modifiers), and ability specific modifiers(cloudburst or whatever it was renamed to, passives such as void decimation count too).

Fight specific mechanics such as the proteus burn I think count as a fifth category, but I know sometimes they fall into other categories.

With my gear and my Pyro build, 10% SP = about 7.1% total damage increase
My gear & build are built purely for dps/sp, but I've used int/end dream orbs and no special wl-box gear for more sp yet
