    Alright, so every PvPer by now is either hopeful or has come to the realization Trion may never implement an arena system per se on Rift. However there is definitely a more healthy alternative that will not absorb as much hate or criticism other players have towards arena type games.

    So what could be the solution to cater to us PvPers wanting more organised PvP without hassles? Easy as the title suggests: GROUP DUELS!

    Rift already has a successful inbuilt dueling system for 1 on 1, but why leave it there? Implementing a Group Duel feature would not generate any problems, but just add another unique feature which could potentially attract a lot PvPers to create new unique ideas, and cater to their own PvP desires through dimensions or open world maps!

    So lets start with the negatives of what Group Dueling could bring? No matter what game your going to play, some people out there will have egos. So sure there could be an under the table ranking system, but not a legit ladder which most people do not want, hence why we still don't have Arenas today. We are asking for a Group Dueling feature, nothing else. Just a feature we can right click in a party and duel certain groups of people. We arn't asking for ranking systems either, just a Group dueling feature. You get the point.

    So now the positives?

    - The new Dimension system allows us PvPers to create a unique type of setting for Group PvP. Now Trion doesn't have to spend so much time creating WF's we don't even want to play.

    - People can spectate a 5 vs 5 4 vs 4 3 vs 3 Etc Type of Match. If made inside a dimension, Wow you can easily invite people from other servers to compete or spectate! I will probably charge people to watch epic battles because I'am poor.

    - Now PvPers that once que'd for 5 vs 5's now dont have the interruptions of pugs. Also people who only want to do 3 v 3s or 4 v 4,s can do so. I know personally sometimes it's hard to gather 5 together so having a system that allows you to have 2-3-4 people in a group fight would definitely be great.

    - For people who have potato laptops and internet, this allows us to choose an environment with less lag! YAY!

    Anyway's there are a lot more positives and possibly could be more negatives, and this is what the discussion is about on this thread. Please post constructively so Trion may take a legit look at this idea and may Implement it.

    Here's some images of my Arena Dimension for 5 vs 5's if this idea were ever to launch. Took me an hour to make this, I'm not very talented with building, but a lot of good idea's for PvP features are implemented such as LoS area's which can be used for healers/casters for more strategic game play.

    There isn't any downsides at all to this idea.

    We don't need ratings or any of that jazz imo. Plus this will give everyone a chance to show off their awesome dimensions too!

    I've been asking for group duels for a long time, and to turn pvp back on in instances. Sure would be nice to incorporate the two.

    Lots of hours put into these there is another one but its has a secret path to get into and I cant figure it out >_< that Dimension is like a maze.

    The actual dimension is cool its self too.

    I think the only problem with these platform built dimensions are that leasp and ports seem to not work very well on them probably because of the very small cracks, gaps, and maybe un even platforms.

    The best TDM dimension's right now are going to be ones that use the actual default ground as the base for the dueling area.


    Im all for this idea though I think it would be great! Trion has a real gem here that could be HUGE if this was made possible. Im sure players would love to get involved in creating the best dueling dimension ever.

    as for rankings and all that.... we have a sister sight not officially related but one that can tally win//loss etc. Its all very doable we just need Trion to work with us here.

    and if you mean less than WF's then this should go into the thread marked "Trion, work with us for arena's."

    Setup
    2 parties of 5 meet up in a predetermined location which both teams agreed to duel upon. The leader of both parties has to flag their party as "Enable Party Duel Requests". This is a simple check to make sure that the entire party receives the duel request and not just one player. All players in the raid/party should be prompted with a check when the party is flagged/toggled as such. This is to prevent players from unknowingly joining a duel team for whatever reasons. Also this status flag is reset whenever a player leaves or joins the party.

    Challenging
    The next step would be to issue the challenge. For explanation purposes let A be the Defiant team and B the Guardian team. Only the leader of the team is able to issue challenges. Team A's leader will issue a challenge to any member of Team B, however only the leader of team B will receive the challenge. Should team B's leader accept a new prompt/dialogue window box appears. If he should reject the request, team A is unable to challenge team B for 15s to prevent spamming.

    Accepting Challenges Prompt/Window
    This is a very special window which will basically be a kind of LOBBY system for PvP dueling. It will show the size of both teams, names of players, their classes, levels, prestige ranks and their ready status. There might even be a chatbox included for the two teams to communicate within without outside noise. There will be buttons to toggle Ready or Unready Status, a "Cancel Duel" button which closes the window, and a "Commence Duel" button which ONLY lights up when your team's players are ALL ready. Only the party leader can press the lit Commence Duel button. Upon pressing the Commence Duel button, your team is locked and no changes to Ready status are allowed. Once both teams hit commence duel, the countdown begins. 3... 2... 1...

    Rules Of Engagement
    The Dueling Banner is dropped once the countdown commences and stays until the duel is concluded. The perimeter of the Duel area is highlighted on the map and has some visible glowing animation (visible but not too obstructive, preferably like dotted lines) to demarcate the duel zone and scales according to the size of the party/raid. Should a player leave the zone they have 5s to return or be removed from the duel. The duel is concluded once all the players in a team are rendered incapacitated. Should a single player be defeated in the duel he/she is unable to soulwalk or respawn while his teammates are alive, he remains in his corpse state. All players receive a Duel Buff while within the zone. This is the anti-intervention buff.

    Duel Anti-Intervention Buff
    All players who receive this buff are flagged as non-hostile to non-duel players and mobs alike. They cannot receive healing/damage/buff/debuffs/etc. from non-duel players. Also duel players with this buff are unable to attack/interact/heal/buff/debuff/etc. non-duel players and mobs. To prevent abuse, it is only applicable while within the duel zone. Should a player leave the duel zone and re-enter, the buff is applied 5s later. Should a player be defeated while within the confines of the duel zone the buff will persist through death to prevent outside res'.

    Timers
    Duels can only last 15mins long to prevent abuse. Once the countdown ends the duel area dissipates and the Anti-Intervention buff.

    Scoreboard
    A scoreboard summary is posted once the duel has concluded. Similar to that in WFs.

    Post-Battle
    All duel participants are returned to full health and PvP flagged 25s once the duel is over and NOT when they die.

    Battle Resurrection Interactions
    A player who is downed in battle and battle res'd should still be able to participate in the battle since the Anti-Intervention buff persists through death.

    Rewards and XP
    None.

    I'd start a ladder/ranking system on DYER if we got group dueling.

    Still would rather have rated wfs so you could play against a broader group of people but this would be fun for sure.
