A ploy like this wouldn't be needed if people weren't so weak and scared of a fair fight.

When you hop to one side or the other to unbalance it you make things like this a reality. And we all know that is what happened here.

On my account I have 2 level 50 defiants but I play guardian despite the fact that defiants outnumber us. I pvp FOR THE CHALLENGE! I don't want to be carried through.

So while I don't wholeheartedly agree with the merc concept its not without precedent in the fantasy genre.

This is a really bad idea because of how warfronts work, not because the idea itself is bad.

Guild of 15 queues for Black Garden on the defiant side.
Queue pops with the minimum 4 guardians on their side and 5+ mercs belonging to the guild.
Cross-faction mercs play half heartedly, spending most of their time lecturing the poor guardians on how to pvp, or simply throw the match so their premade on the other side wins.

Lots of room for abuse and sabotage the way they've worded things so far.

The only way mercs could work is if they were a genuine third faction, and the only purpose to queuing as "neutral" in a warfront would be to earn pure cash. No valor or prestige for mercs.

This makes absolutely no sense. Maybe you don't understand how this works? Why would someone throw a match. No one in their right mind is gonna sacrifice valor and prestige out of some misplaced faction pride. Even RP players. That being said, I think they should make it a third faction or a toggle just for the long term impact of having a third faction. I'm all for being kind to RP players (who will really hate this change, as they should) but that doesn't mean this is a bad concept in any way shape or form. No one is gonna do what you are describing above, no one.

I like this as long as the "mercinary" status is randomly assigned (which is how it appears to be designed).

There should be an "opt-out" setting though that allows characters to queue only for their own faction. Not everyone wants to be a mercinary. Most of us will enjoy it though

they should just make mercs a third faction and give us some damn meaningful world pvp with objectives you can capture and hold like we've been asking for since pre-release. then again maybe its too late for that most pvpers have come and gone. 1/6 servers that reach high pop is a pvp server the rest are pve
