This thread is different from the others, I am suggesting a very simple implementation for Open World RVR in Rift

First of all, let's look at all the objections to Open World RVR in Rift

a) It takes away focus from developers, when this time can be well used in creating more pve content
b) Players who want RvR are a minority of Rift players
c) Implementating RvR will affect PVE
d) Faction imbalance

Ok let's look at the solutions

It takes away focus from developers, when this time can be well used in creating more pve content

This is a simple implementation. Create a new zone, pvp flagged only having the following features:

1) Large open and mostly flat ground, with occassional LOS items like trees, rocks. Perimeter is a circle with about 20 spawn spots equally spaced on the perimeter of the circle. If you zone here solo, you randomly appear in any of the 20 spots. If you zone here with a group, all members will appear in the same spawn spot. You cannot zone here with a raid group, maximum is 5 members which is 1 group. There is a safe zone around the spawn spot where you cannot be attacked

2) In the centre is a siegable keep. No need anything fancy where walls can be broken down. Just give the capability to setup turrets/siege weapons around the keep.

3) In the keep, there are new pvp crafting NPCs and crafting stations. These can craft pvp gear, and consumables. Materials will be a combination of materials dropped from killing players, and materials bought from these pvp NPCs

4) It is important to design these pvp gear to be focused mostly on Vengeance and Valor, so that pve folks will have no desire to farm for these gear (ie no forced pvp/rvr)

5) Selected pieces of the Prestige Rank 39 and 40 pvp gear (and future tiers) can only be crafted in this keep

Players who want RvR are a minority of Rift players

Solution to this is simple. Trion will flash a survey window to players who log into Rift, asking the following question with Yes or No as the option:

--> Do you want Rift to have Open, Persistent World RvR?

Implementating RvR will affect PVE

PvE folks need not port to this zone at all. High tiers of pve gear with focus/hit/toughness can only be found in the high tier raid dungeons. The new pvp gear will only be focused on mostly Vengeance and Valor

Faction imbalance

This zone will be Group based :

a) You cannot kill members of the same group
b) You can group with members of opposite faction but will not understand their language
c) You can work together with other groups through chat for eg, but be careful of friendly fire
d) I foresee guild vs guild to be the end state
