This statement is NOT true.
But I see it again and again. I also see too often players walk by Rune vessels and not picking them. Which makes me think that are many players who simply do not understand how to play this warfront.
You win by holding vessels.
you get also points for killing people but it is negligeable compared to points you get while holding vessels. Priority is always to pick vessels. There are initially 4 vessels. On the map there are positionned at cardinal points. For defiants, South vessel and East Vessels, are the easiest to control so you should consider them as "your" vessels. FOr guardians, it is the other two, ofc. If ennemy gets its hands on them that means you are not doing it right.
Two additionnal vessels, appear after 5minutes at north and south, in upper ring.In a balance warfront they will make the difference, but most of the time the outcome of the warfront is already decided before they pop.
Everybody can pick vessels.
Vessels do damage but it is nothing compared to damage you receive for holding Black Garden fang. With time damage will increase and will eventually kill you. But if you get to this point that means that you have scored several points for your team.
If you carry a vessel you will become a priority target. It is business as usual for a healer, but some dps do not like it. Accept it or do not play this warfront.
It is of course much much better to have people who are able to sustain a lot of damage to carry bessels(healers , higher ranks...). But even rank 1 players, if they are alone by a vessel, should pick it. Obviously they are not the best carrier, but it is better than not scoring or letting adverse team grab the vessel and hold it.
Be aware of your teammates, though: it does not makes sense for a rank 1 rogue to "steal" a vessel from a healer rank 8 of the same team.
When you hold vessels,
avoid to stay close to other players who carry vessels else if will increase damage you receive from vessels. If your team is holding middle, stay with your healers. If your team, is being wiped in middle, no point in gettind there even if your healers are there: Stay in the lower ring and try to avoid fight and hold vessel as much as long as you can. You may very well pick the same fang again and again in a warfront and stay out of fight during all warfront.it will not be a lot of fun but it can be a valid strat to score points for your team.
Try to break LOS, IN the middle or in outer rings, there are several items that allow you to hide and makes life difficult for range fighters.
Also if your are holding a vessel you shoudl consider to play more defensively. it might not always be possible, especially if your team relies heavily on your heals or dps, but it does not make sense to expose yourself and get killed, just to score a few more kills.
Strategy to pick vessels at start
usually defiant should collect south and east vessels in defensive moves. Guardians should get north and west vessels. However sometimes nobody picks the closest vessel(south or north) : it is usually sign of a bad team. A good way to mitigate this risk is simply to state which vessel you inted to pick at start.
Ideally a stong healer, should pick south vessel for defiants. If all goes well, he will be in position to keep it during most of the warfront and collect it again after each death. it is possible to die only once while carrying south stone during all warfront.
Just jump in the arena to get as fast as possible to your stone.
For east vessel for defiants and west for guardians it is better to get some fast runners get there. Take lift to go there and you will get an offensive buff. Unfortunatly buff also slows you down a bit and against some team it can be an issue.
Offensively, it is in yor interest to pick one of adverse vessels immdetiatly at start. Not only do you score more but you prevent them for scoring. Often it can generates some confusion in adverse team and they may not be able to get over it. Sometimes you win warfront in the first 15 seconds.
easiest vessel to contest is the west vessel for defiants(east for guardians). You can get there nearly as as fast as opposite team by jumping middle and try to prevent them to pick it by shooting from range.
But you can also get there before them and that is one of my favorite strat. If you have a runner spec, like the one you can use in whitefall you can try to get faster than adverse team by jumpin middle and porting. I manage to pick it 90% of the time doing that. However, you become the main target and find yourself in the middle of adverse team: try to reach for your team or try to jump in lower bring to break LOS and join safety. And if you die, it si no big deal. You managed to score a few points, prevent adverse team to score, forced players to focus on you instead of your 2 others stones, and won time for your tema to organise.
I also find that going fast for north vessel( for defiants) is a valid start if you have a solid rogue. There is the chance that adverse team will forget to pick it... but do not count on it. What will happen most likely is that adverse player who picks the vessel will find himself alone in outer ring while his teammates have rushed to middle or other vessels. You need to stop him before he reaches middle ground where he will receive some support. Sometimes carrier chose to stay back cause they think it is safer. If you bring fight to them you get an advantage. Once you have killed him you are in a very good position to pick his vessel at repop, since its likely his teamates will be to busy elsewhere. Just run to safety: if your teammates did their jobs and are holding to your 2 vessels, you will take a decisive lead.
You need to keep track of vessels: Who is holding which stone. It helps you undertand when this person dies where next vessel will spawn and try to control this place. it takes about 15s for a vessel to respwan. MOst of the time players react to vessels respawning, when they should be proactive. If you expect it, you can get 15 seconds advantage against adverse team.
Of course, it is easy to lose track in the middle of the fight. People who are in best position to know which vessel will resswan are carrier and killer(s). Often you see the same guy pick again and again the same stone, since cycle of vessel respawn more or less match cycle of user respawn. But there is a difference that can be positive or negative and there is also the time to reach vessel that you can use to steal a vessel.
If adverse team is holding middle and keeping its vessels there, I try to kill one carrier and then break fight to reach vessel's respawn area . Even if I die in the process, if i managed to kill a carrier there is a chance that i will be able to get at vessel before him or at least fight him before he reaches middle and his teammates.
A good idea also is, if you knwow where next vessel will spawn,is to mention it in chat so your teammates can act accordinly.
We come here to the "middle" strategy: staying middle is the best way for a dominating team to control all the spawning points. When a vessel is about to appear just move,as a group, toward spawning point, collect it, then move back middle . this way you cna fully leverage on you healers and you dps.
However it is NOT a good strategy if your team get wiped in frontal assault. If you avoid middle fight and try to hold vessels in upper and lower ring you can force adverse team to split: they might be weaker this way. And they might start to play badly and forget to pick vessels while chasing you around.
I see a lot of teams loose while they dominate middle, and belive that they are safe.
if there is only one thing to remember: pick vessels.
