Default The most balanced solution to the whole R1-R8 gear disparity, premades and candy!

I've heard a lot of people say separate the ranks from 1-4, 5-8 or something like that but while sleeping the best solution that addresses many of those problems came to me in a candy filled dream!

    Solution

    Create warfronts brackets for

    Rank 1
    Rank 2-6
    Rank 7-8

Yes! You heard correctly. The reason for this particular split will also bring about a few other delicious changes.

    Rank 1

Rank 1 only faces other rank ones, so basically it's more of a "fair" fight and new players will not feel like they're getting 1-2 shotted anymore which would discourage them from progressing (cough cough grinding) to R8.

I was getting 2 shotted when I first started warfronts at level 50 and some people say "suck it up! it's part of the game". I say not everyone has the patience or masochistic personality to endure that torture. Why should we not encourage players to participate in pvp? In the end it helps us all does it not? We want more people to play just like we want more people to play Rift in general. More people will eventually mean less queue times.

Rank 1's together also means that newbies get a chance to learn the warfronts instead of getting yelled at by Briarcliff players being told they suck and to die and other horrible things.

    Rank 2 - 6

There will still be gear imbalances but the 2 extreme portions are removed. No rank 8 warrior weapon slicing through people even though there is still rank 6 obviously. But also no more fresh newbies who have zero gear. Hopefully people at this point will be somewhat used to the gear imbalances and the pvp mechanic imbalances (which Trion needs to fix! cough cough Diminishing Returns, weapon/spell coefficients, etc).

This is important because many have suggested rank 1-4 and 5 - 8 separation, but having rank 2 - 6 should not affect queue times severely as the majority of players would probably be somewhere within those groupings.

Rank 7-8 - The Ultimate End

Ok so breaking up into different prestige rank bracket will for sure increase queue time for people at Rank 7-8. That is the only draw back of separating warfronts, but I think for the pros, this con is acceptable.

If you're at rank 7-8, you're nearing the end or already have all your gear, so "farming" warftonts at the highest rate of favor and prestige per hour should no longer be a priority.

Having only rank 7-8 players will obviously be the most balanced from a gear disparity point of view and it's as balanced as possible minus premade groups and the class, pvp mechanics issue.

Let the games begin! Let's see how 1 rank 8 warrior does versus another! Let's see R8 healing clerics both heal their teammates non stop!

Lastly, to make up for the longer queues and to encourage players to keep playing after reaching max cap and having all the gear, it is time to introduce new REWARDS.

Yes, rank 8 bracket will become the quasi competitive level bracket since this game doesn't really have one (eg. arena, ratings, etc).

Rewards will include random drops, maybe new costume recipes or costume with gladiator themes that can only be purchased with favor after hitting rank 8 (or whatever the highest level PR it grows into).

Have new gladiator mounts, maybe purchased through favor or "achieve 100 warfronts wins at rank 8". Give out titles for different achievements (eg. title for 1000 kills at rank 8 warfronts, 500 killing blows, heal for a total combined amount of 100 000 000 health, etc)

Maybe even track wins/losses at rank 8 and give some score ratings that may lead to additional rewards, gladiator mount, weapons, titles.

Basically, R8 will become the new "endgame" for pvp (until an rvr zone comes along or some other conceept) and it will encourage players to "level" their pvp from fresh newbie all the way to Rank 8.

why would you only create a WF for rank 1's. You can literrally level out of it in 3 hours with a few pvp dailes. At 45k Prestige from R1 -> R2 you'll be alienating a lot of people.

    The best is r1-r5, r6-r8

This way low ranking friends can still play with each other and competitive 'no lifers' can play with each other aswell. Breaking into 2 rank groups instead of (3 or 4 or 5) will still ensure good queue times and won't alienate too many players.

As for why R6-R8. There is a minor difference between R6 and R7. At R8 you're a monster. At R6 you're a monster (relative to R5). This are milestones and should be grouped into 1 category.

another option s to add more PVP quests.

but give these a max rank for being able to do them
so a R1 would have 5 additional daylie quests
at R2 this would reduce to 2
and so on till your back to the daylie quests already in game at R6

alouwing the lower ranks to catch up a bit faster

Make higher rank players worth more Prestige/Favor to everyone, and more so when you are lower level.

If you both are the same rank, you get X Favor/Presige for a kill. When you kill someone 1 less rank, you get 80% of X. 1 Higher, you get 120%. 20% more or less for each rank either way. Caps out at 50% and 200% of X.

R8s would get 50% of X favor for killing anyone r5 or less. R1s would get 200% of X favor for anyone over R5.

    Its a self correcting system.

I like this idea and it worked well in War. Harder enemies should be worth the challenge to bring down. Especially since certain class r8's can take down a party fairly quickly.

That's exactly how AION handled the situation -- a high ranking player killing a low one would get nothing at all, and if a lot of low ones managed to kill a high one they'd get a great amount.

Though, in AION the ranks were also fluid -- you'd lose rank as you died.

Bracketing by rank also prevent guilds and friends from playing with one another. There are far too many threads regarding this fail idea.

we can do better than that.

separate the queues for each rank!

oh and make sure no warfront has 2 people from the same guild, and no warfronts start unless they can be filled riight away.

after 60 minutes, people will leave queue automatically and be forced to requeue

    it could work!

You think this con is acceptable because you're not rank 8.
You do realise that queues will most likely take hours?

Everyone queues together and sometime ( late at night or wtv ) we have 10-15 minutes queues.
Remove 99% of the population (rank 1 to 6) and try to get a game popping.

I'm sure people will just love that when they successfully finish the pvp rank grind, they can't even play anymore.

I often believe posts such as these and others are made by people that do not want Rank separation. They attempt to confuse the issue by offering other Rank separation schemes that simply do not make sense, in the hopes that people will start thinking off all such Rank separation plans the same way.

    R1-4
    R5-8

    It's that simple.

It's not one of these off the wall and cumbersome separations. Do not let the Pro-R8-Rawfulstomping people fool you... they're not the same.

Cast your vote for R1-4 & R5-8 in the November 2012 election.

I agree with this setup. you could also have a different warfront that would be casual so guildies/buddies could play together but the rewards would be 20% of the normal reward for prestige and favor. that would be small enough to eliminate any team of 8s stomping everyone.

I would also love to see a PvP zone introduced that has vendors and or quests available to those in control of x villages in the zone, or each village would need to be occupied by that faction to get the quests.

    that is all
