if you stand still on the back of the group, you'll learn that your enemies have moved out of your reach or that the group is moving toward you so you'll find yourself -on the front- and not on the back.

you are playing an imaginary fight in your head where everything is tidy, all troops follow their placement, the enemy do exactly what you want it to do, alas it has no resemblance to a real warfront or open-world pvp skirmish.
There is a lot of that in the discussions, I've noticed. As if people have watched old war movies where the two sides politely line up on opposite sides and attack each other in an orderly fashion. You have to wonder if they've ever stepped foot in a WF. Then again, often enough you will see them in a Garden standing back and fighting at a distance while the opposing team wins. Both cases often lead to a serious case of repeated /facepalms.

There are also a lot of the discussions, that for the life of you...you just cannot picture taking place in a WF. After a moment's though, you realize they are describing something taking place in Sanctum or Meridian and once again end up doing the /facepalm.

Guild wars 2 said this same thing and have fixed this for you. Every class can move while casting.

That standing still for two seconds feels like a lifetime. Then again, it is one of the reasons I never really got into Pyromancer - so much standing around instead of move, stand, move, stand, move.
The term glass cannon mean anything to you? Cast times are to balance out the fact that one big spell IF it goes off is going to one/ two shot you..the balance is you have to actually get that shot off..

Its the same with certain combat sim games or fps's..

In MW4 the long tom and arrow IV missiles were big slow and generally considered joke weapons... untill you ran into someone who was good with them.. nothing cleared out a pop sniper nest like 4 longtoms landing in the middle of them...
And Shepard's we shall be for thee my lord for thee, power hath descendant forth from thy hand, may our feet swiftly carry on thy command, so we shall flow a river forth to thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be

In nomeni Patri et Filii et Spiritus Sancti.

Sorry you don't know how to read battles as they move =/ Most people don't though, it's kind of funny to see how well people do when they can.

so... the glass is there, where's our cannon?
we arent anymore burst king from 1.2 red ball nerf, warriors have higher burst than pyros or domi.
again, you are playing some strange game in your head, it has not relevance on how rift works.

Cooldowns do not equal cast times. Doing 500 damage to someone with a 2 second cast time, is not the same thing as doing 500 damage on the move with a 2 second CD with an insta. For some strange reason, this never gets taken into account.

PvP is about alpha damage, and sustained damage on the move. If you play a class that has to stand still to DPS, good luck. It's been this way forever, and it needs to be acknowledged.
I think the cd part is supposed to be related to how much damage an ability (that is not on special proc) can do in x amount of time, to keep it from being over powered. It's not the same as being able to cast on the move or not. If it still takes the same amount of time to cast an ability while you are moving as it does when you are not then the question is why one should have to remain in one spot to do it. The answer is that it is true (or true when things are balanced) that the requirement to stand still to do your most powerful damage is applied to every single Calling Role. Every one of them. You have to PLAN ahead to make it possible (while standing still) to throw cosmos shaking damage. That's why it's that way, I think. Only weak or special proc damage can be done while moving.
